Getting rid of the pacifier
DD is 9 1/2 months and still uses a pacifier. Fortunately, she only uses it to sleep. I don't mind her using it, but lately, she is constantly throwing them out of her crib KNOWING that DH and I will come up and get them. This goes on for WAY too long and she's smart enough to know Mommy and Daddy will come and "visit" and get her pacifier for her. So, I think it might be time to get rid of it!!! I know CIO is going to be horrible, but this is getting ridiculous. Any advice from BTDT moms when getting rid of the paci?

Re: Getting rid of the pacifier
We still have it. DS is going to be a year at the end of the month. I only try to use it for naps and sleep. BUT that doesnt always happen. When he tosses it, I have a 3 stikes rule. After 3 times, he doesn't get it til bed. I want it gone by his bday. Im hoping he will get the hint. Because he sure as hell knows he is tossing it.

Re: Getting rid of the pacifier
I never took it away, mine gave it up on his own when he was 3. Only used it to sleep too.
However, when he got to the stage where he would toss it out of the crib, I put about a dozen into his crib. I refused to fish them off the floor and give them back to him. So if he threw one, he still had 11. If he threw that one, he still had 10. Let me tell you, when he realized that I was NOT going to come back to fish it off the floor, the game got old quick, and he never once had a night where he threw all 12 of them out.

Re: Getting rid of the pacifier
I leave it clipped onto the binky holder that attaches to his PJs (I know some people don't agree w/ this, but I really don't see how he could strangle himself w/ a 3-inch piece of fabric!).

Re: Getting rid of the pacifier
I have 4 in each of their cribs. They only use them to sleep. When they toss them out of their crib, they don't get them back until they are finished with their nap. So they lose out. Usually they don't throw them all out. They save one to suck on

Re: Getting rid of the pacifier
We took the paci away about a month ago. DS was 9 months and was getting an awful rash around his mouth from the salava staying under the paci. We took it away cold turkey. The first night was horifice and the second night was aweful. The third night went better. After that it wasn't an issue. Though the three nights felt like an eternity looking back it was really a short time. Pick a few nights maybe start with a friday night if you have the weekend off and do it.
