I just saw a few messages saying the AFC urgent care centers are testing at their sites now. There’s one in west Islip that i was alerted to.
I’m glad to hear your dad is feeling better !
Take a look at this. This is from News 12 and they say it's the line outside that urgent care. Look at how close these people are standing to one another. Shouldn't someone be telling them to stand further apart? OMG

Getting tested for Coronavirus
My husband literally had every symptom. He called the hotline and was told that unless he worked in the healthcare industry or had direct contact with someone who tested positive, he did not fit the criteria. We called multiple times. He was told to assume he has it and quarantine. I hear the same story from so many people and it really makes you realize how skewed the numbers on the news are because so many cant be tested.
We went to CityMD as well and they refused to test him there also.

This is in my town by the AFC. Rich Hoffman took it from a WI FB page. And people were calling 311 and the urgent care to get people in their friggin cars to wait!! By the time the news 12 helicopter came, most went back in their cars. That was 2 blocks long from the AFC Urgent care. People were losing their minds (rightfully so) if you didn’t have it when you got on that line, you’re leaving with it

Getting tested for Coronavirus
That picture is just nuts. People are so clueless! I really don't understand the obsession with getting tested. There is no cure or medicine so if you are not having breathing difficulties stay home and get better like you should be doing anyway. Having the test really isn't going to help you.

And the thing is- let's say you don't have it- and it's just flu or whatever, now you are standing right on top of 35 other people who may have it. So if you didn't have it before, now you do/. What assholes.

While I get your logic (no cure, so why bother finding out if you have it?), I think it is important for research purposes. They do not know if we can catch it again. Coronaviruses are very tricky to study and they do tend to mutate. I only know this because of my cats and I had a kitten that died from the feline Coronavirus that mutated. I read something the other day that said that some people have recovered and then started showing symptoms after 7 days. So they would need to know how long, and if, we can build up antibodies or not.
They definitely shouldn’t be standing that close to each other!

Exactly. I get wanting accurate numbers and for research purposes but it needs to be done better than this. This is only going to spread it more.

Getting tested for Coronavirus
Testing is important so you can isolate those who have the virus. South Korea has mitigated the outbreak by early, rapid and widespread testing. If someone tested positive they tested all of the persons contacts as well (Including using GPS phone data, which raises concerns but worked). South Korea and the US had their first positive cases the same day but they have managed way better than we have.

I just watched a really good interview with the main doctor in these types of viruses in Korea and it was really interesting. They contained it very well.
ETA: here’s the interview if you want to watch it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAk7aX5hksU&feature=emb_logo

I don't disagree with this but we are not at this testing level yet. Just getting tested now, besides adding to the numbers, is really doing nothing. To have lines like in that picture is counter productive. Once they get rapid testing or test at home kits, then I agree that everyone should be tested. I think there is going to be a battle with that though as people are going to see it as violating their rights and as far as GPS, that will never fly here, even if we think it should. As of now, stay home unless you can't breathe. All they are doing is infecting more people.

I already know people who keep the GPS off on their phones because they feel weirded out by it.

Re: Getting tested for Coronavirus
Rapid testing is pretty inaccurate for Flu and Strep, so I don't even know how accurate a rapid test they just came up with will be for this?

Good point. So many times the rapid is negative on those two and then after they send it to the lab for the "real" test it comes back positive.

Getting tested for Coronavirus
My cousin in his 40s thought he had the flu He went to urgent care where the flu test was negative and they tested him on the spot for covid In farmingdale They have/had the rapid test and he tested positive He truly thought he had the flu because he does not have shortness of breath. Needless to say his parents both tested positive as well, they do not live together and have not seen each other The parents were tested 6 day’s ago, NOT a rapid test I’m on day 19 of never leaving my house again
