Are you changing your plans in response? I can’t decide what to do. I had plans to go to the slime museum this weekend but am now wondering if I should cancel and avoid all unnecessary large gatherings of people. Are you doing anything different now?

No not yet. But I did stock my freezer and pantry in case things get bad and I don’t want to leave the house when it hits here.

Re: Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?

Not gonna lie, I ran out and purchased a box of masks today. Just Incase it’s something we may need in the near future. And I have been popping ViTC like it’s my job. Don’t know if it matters, but it makes me feel like I have some control (which I know we do not)
We won’t be doing any traveling until this dies down and won’t be in large groups of strangers - because honestly, It’s not worth the risk. Especially until we know a little more about this

ETA: I think that canceling large gatherings for now could only HELP stop the spread of this and everything else going around. Flu, strep, weird rash and fever viruses i see people posting about daily. Just for now

Not yet, but expect that it may happen soon. Have thought about stocking up on some essentials - may do that this weekend.

And just read that Jet Blue is waiving change/cancellation fees for all flights booked between yesterday and March 11th for travel through June 1. I'm not sure I understand that policy - why not give the same allowances for flights booked prior to yesterday?

I'm not worried to the point yet where I'll alter my routine but I would probably be weary if I had a trip coming up to Europe... My cousin is getting married in Italy in May and though I'm not going to the wedding, my parents are and a lot of my other family members are. I don't believe travel insurance covers cancelling because of the coronavirus.

Same! This is so ridiculous and I hold the media responsible. It's total fear mongering. There is not one single case of this particular coronavirus confirmed in or around the NY area, so why is everyone worried? Because it could potentially happen? Its sick that the media is allowed to cause widespread panic to the masses. It's irresponsible at the very least.

Don't eat bats and other rodents and wash your hands. That's how you can avoid coronavirus and pretty much every other virus.

Exactly! The media is ridiculous and causing panic for no reason. They should be held accountable. Businesses are losing money because of irresponsible reporting. There hasn't been 1 confirmed case in NYS. How many ppl fly in a out of the city everyday... and literally not one confirmed case? They shouldn't be allowed to cause panic like this. They keep reporting about how many ppl are being tested locally, but conveniently forget to mention that no one locally actually has it.

Everything the media reports in every area of life is so sensationalized and unbelievable so I am not sure why people feel any differently about the way they are reporting on this. The entire media system in this country needs to be held accountable for irresponsible reporting and they are not.

However, I do think, like the flu, this will spread and we will see it here. I am not afraid of dying from coronavirus. In fact I am not even afraid of getting it as it doesn't sound much worse than the flu. But what I am afraid of is widespread panic and mass shutdowns of businesses and schools if it does come here. That's the problem.

Was at Columbia hospital yesterday and I was wondering if anyone there was sick with it! But I hear everyone being asked if they had travelled and if they felt sick.

My parents are going to Paris and London in 2 weeks and they are a bit leary...

I work in flushing at a middle school, so there is nothing I can do besides wash my hands frequently. We had 3 new students from China the Friday before break started, and because they showed up within a certain window of time, they were not required to sit in isolation before starting school. The principal thought about asking them to stay home Friday and just start school the Monday after break, but then found out we can't ask them because it could be a lawsuit. She would be technically refusing them of their education.

Re: Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?

being that there is one case in northern california of a lady who didn't have any connection to china, SO got a bit worried.

he bought masks.

the timing is a bit "funny" for me... i'm about to start prepping the house, pantry, freezer for my annual easter brunch. so i will already be taking stock of what is in the house.

now... i won't lie, i might add some staples while i'm out buying easter items to stockpile.

other than that, i won't be changing any activities. it doesn't hurt that i don't like crowds and am a huge homebody.

The same way I handled Ebola, swine flu, the actual flu which kills people - absolutely nothing!! Live my life per usual.

Also there are a lot of businesses that have offices or conduct business in China, so that “American” you’re next to on the train or bus could’ve have travelled to China within the year. My sisters colleague is actually stuck in China because they had a meeting there. So don’t just be weary of Chinese, I would stay away from anyone who is sick just like you would during this horrible flu and strep season.

Nope and once again the media is at it trying to scare people and have accomplished what they have set out to do.
I honestly don’t believe all the stories of people who have it and am very Leary of the one in CA.
As I am posting, the afternoon news is on and the “pandemic” word is being used again.

100!!! Absolutely agree with you!

The ship that came into Bayonne, my sister was so freaked out because the way they were reporting it. I had to tell her that I was watching the story and the risk was low of the 4 they quarantined and then it turned out to be the flu, which the news reported like a day or two later. It takes seconds to test for flu. Why was that not released sooner?? A day later everyone isn’t paying attention to the update and are just running with the original story about a Cruise ship with a family who had the Coronavirus.Chat Icon

Exactly and I bet the majority of these cases ARE just the flu but they will never saw that. That ship has gone out and come back I think at least twice now and never heard anything again.

Yep! I remember she was freaking out because she could see the ship and people were still stuck there 2 days later. I told her don’t go on the boat lol. Also it turned out the people who were there on Sunday were the people who were scheduled to cruise. Because they spent an extra day to clean the ship and even though it was delayed you can still hangout on the boat eat and drink like a sea day. If I paid for it and was still planning on taking the cruise, best believe I am going to be on the boat eating and drinking like I’m on vacation.lol.

Yes sweetie please still go to the museum and enjoy yourself. Just bring purel and if you really are nervous you can wear the mask (which I don’t think is necessary but I’m also not a doctor or scientist).

What is everyone panicking for? The symptoms are that of common cold or other common respiratory viruses. Statistics show that the mortality of anyone affected by it is like 2 percent and some people don’t even know if they have it because there are no symptoms. Just make sure to practice good hygiene and wash your hands.

Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?

No—there are 330 million people here in the US and only 60 or so cases. None even close to Long Island.
