Getting Tubes Tied?

LONG

For BTDT moms who had their tubes tied, especially those who chose to do it after c/s with their last child.

How did you ladies reach your tube tying decision? For those that decided not to what made you decide not to?

BACKSTORY
DH says he's defintiely done with DS#2 (due 10/4). DS#1 and DS #2 will be 18 months apart. I'm 35 yrs old and DS will be 3 when DS #2 is born. When we found out we were pregnant with #2 we both adamantly agreed that if it was a Chat Icon I'd definitely get my tubes tide. However I'm pregnant with another Chat Icon. When we found out it was another Chat Icon I went on the fence about tying my tubes but DH still wants me to get it done at my c/s with #2. I go back and forth. Lately I've been leaning towards getting my tubes tied...mostly because I don't want to have another baby in the next 2-3 years (which would put me at 37-39 for a next baby) and because I really don't want to go through the infant/toddler stage into my 40's. But then I think of how final getting my tubes tied will be and what if we change our mind, etc.

Yesterday I went for my 30 week appt and I spoke to my doc about it and he wants me to be 100% sure but that if I'm not my other options would be an IUD (he won't put me on hormonal BC because of my age and other risk factors).

Just figured I'd tap my resources here and see how everyone made their decision. I kinda just need to talk it out and listen to others experiences. BTW I wouldn't have my tubes tied after my c/s because it requires general anethesia and I did not have a good experience with it. DH doesn't want to go for a vasectomy because he's never had any kind of procedure (wimp Chat Icon )

Thank you for reading if you've gotten this farChat Icon

Re: Getting Tubes Tied?

It was a 2nd pregnancy, and I knew getting pg again, this was it.
No more kids.
Regardless of boy or girl. We already had a DD....didnt matter.

Little did I know- TWINS, and even that was even more confirmation I was done.

I had a scheduled c-section and they went in and tied tubes then.

I was asked a bunch of times till that day of.

I was 100% no matter what.

I didn't think about it with #2, but now pregnant with #3, I know I never want to be pregnant again. We are having Chat Icon after two Chat Icon though

I'm 37 and will be 59 when Chat Icon (hopefully) graduates college. I want to be able to retire, not have another tuition payment.

OB really made me think. He said:
* well you will forget about being pregnant within 5 months (I don't care if I forget - I don't want to go through this again - I want my body back)
* what if you meet someone else (he better have kids already or learn to love mine - anyway - i have to find a reason to divorce DH anyway - and by that time, I'll be in menopause anyway. )

I was happy with 2, so I'm pretty sure I will be just as content with 3.

While it does scare me (I'm still 3 weeks from the tying), I know it's the right decision. DH would have a vasectomy, but since I am having the c/s it just makes sense. I have heard that you can still do IVF...and whether that's true or a reality, it's enough to make me feel comfortable with the decision.

Re: Getting Tubes Tied?

i knew the minute i was pregnant with #1 that i ONLY wanted 2 kids... or be pregnant 2 times...

but the decision was made final after i got my BFP with my 2nd... my first OB appt, i had all the paperwork to be filled out.

it was an easy choice for me... i knew i wanted 2 kids or just 2 pregnancies....
