ghi girls,regarding SA(update..sort of lol)

so dh needs to have another SA for us to start ivf...he had one but they want 2

so we go to quest and the inform us they do not do them anymore

i asked if they knew another lab she said labcorp..does anyone know if ghi covers that

what lab did u guys use? i am afraid if we go to labcorp we will get a gigantic bill

if it is not covered is it not too expensive cause then we will just pay

i do not understand if your insurance wants you to have something done,and you to use a certain lab but the lab does not do it



ok so quest def does not so any more SA..only post vasectomy

first time i called GHI the girls did not seem to want to help me find a lab,i got that vibe when she said you knwo u could look this up online instead of calling,we are busy

called back,this time a diff girl was more helpful and she did give me some labs they work with but i had never heard of them

i asked her about lab corp..she said she*thinks*..she was not 100 percent sure..but thinks labcorp does accept whatever ghi will pay as payment bc they r oon

i tried to call labcorp but for the life of me could not find a number..i emailed them and have not heard back..we even took a ride there but they were closed

so thurs we r just going to go and i will ask if anyone wants to know..

I have GHI but we got it done in our RE's office so I can't be of much help... I would call GHI and ask them what labs you are permitted to use.. good luck!

I called GHI and they said I need to get a referral from DH's PCP and from there go to the specialist, who will then put in a claim to insurance and they will either deny it or accept it. A LOT of hoops to jump through!

I just got a call from DH's PCP -- the Dr. won't sign the referral without seeing DH and has no available appointments until the end of Jan and I need the results for my appointment Feb 1st.

I called Sunrise Medical Labs (800) 782-0282 and it's $127.10 to do SA without insurance. I made DH an appointment. I'd rather pay than deal with my stupid insurance and PCP!

Ummm that's a load of crappppp ... When we did it, we were told that only specific Quest labs did it. We had to drop it off at the one in Syosset. Are you sure that NONE of them do it?? Maybe she was just saying that THAT specific location doesn't do them? That would just be SO weird to me.. how could they just NOT do them?? What are people with GHI not expected to need a sperm analysis?

i agree with pennycat, call quest to make sure. when my DH did it this summer, i beleive there was only one or two places (one in NYC and one in Nassau) that accepted the sample! He had to do his business then jump in the car to get it there on time.

We had it done at Repro Lab (?) in Manhattan. It was only like $175 so we didn't bother looking for insurance coverage.

Quest stopped doing SA in July -- you can search on their website to see where Quest does SA and it says nowhere in NY

its so annoying dealing with ins companies. I've also found that it depends on the person you get on the phone. Some are sooo helpful and some wownt give you the time of day. I try to be as sweet as pie so I can get answers.

Can you call your insurance and find out if they will pay for it at a hospital andrology lab? I know my husband got it done at North shore hospital in manhasset. Its in the same buliding as the center for human reproduction but you dont have to be a patient of theirs. All you need is the prescription from your doctor. You can get an appointment within a few days as long as he abstains for 1-2 days, can't remember exactly. They send the results to your doctor. I can't find the the number but call NS Human Reproduction and ask them for the andrology lab. HTH!

The one in farmingdale does SA. I know I called them to verify if they took my ins and they were able to tell me over the phone.

Not sure about the insurance stuff but if it comes down to it the SA isn't that expensive. DH had one at sunrise when he had no insurance and I think it was like $150, it may hav even been less.

Really? My DH had two new SA's done this past summer at Quest using GHI. I thought he had both done in August with Quest.

I know quest stopped doing them in August and I barely got my DH to get his done there by going around some ppl...I had HIP and they were useless as well and said that quest was the only one who could do it and then quest says they dont anymore...its such BS that you cant get an answer...if you cant get anywhere I would def see if you can do it OOP so you dont waste time...lots of luck!!!

I also wanted to say that GHI should reimburse you fully if you do go out of pocket...afterall..it is THEIR requirment these days to have two SA's on file. Why should you pay for that? Someone at GHI should be able to tell you where to go for testing. Just ridiculous.
