Re: Girls that delivered in Suffolk Hospitals
St. Catherine's
Cons- No private rooms 2-3 women to a room. Were doing major construction on the maternity ward during my stay there, so had to deal with jack hammers and other noise throughout the whole day. Most rooms do not have private showers
Pros
Local Convient Nurses were nice

Re: Girls that delivered in Suffolk Hospitals
st charles:
a con and a pro: they are very strict with the visiting hours 2-4 grandparents and 7-8 ( 7-8- is baby in nursery) it was a con becuase no-one got to see the baby if they werent a grandparent but it was a pro becuase there wanst a million people all over the baby.
con: dh couldnt stay with me overnight because I had to share a room-- a private is like 150 extra and I couldnt see spending that its like more than the mariott
pro: the nurses are wonderful and the location is beautiful, I was looking out the window at the long island sound the whole time I was in labor it was really nice!

Re: Girls that delivered in Suffolk Hospitals
Huntington. -Had a semi-private room for 3 nights (no roomate until my last night). -Nurses were GREAT -Loved my OBGYN (Unfortunatley, he's no longer on Long Island) -LOVED the nursery nurses as well.
-When I was visiting my mother last week, we were down on the 1st or 2nd floor and a lullaby chime went off through the "speakers". A nurse told me "A baby was just born'. Something new! Thought it was awesome!!!
ETA: I didn't realize this thread was almost 3 years old until after I typed everything.

Re: Girls that delivered in Suffolk Hospitals
Stony Brook Hospital:
pros: 1. all rooms are private.
2. they have a great NICU and you never know whether your baby may need it.
cons: 1. visiting hours are too long. not enough time to rest and it makes it difficult to breastfeed. i thought i'd love the long visiting hours but it was difficult.

(Hey, Thanks! I'm a nurse in that unit so it's nice to hear that we're appreciated! )
As for delivery: I delivered at SBMC, too, and I second the pros of "private rooms" and "good food" with room service menus that you can order whenever you're hungry!!
I can probably agree with the con of "too long to get birth certificate" because DS is 1mth old tomorrow and we're still waiting to see the BC.

I also delivered at Huntington twice and no con's at all. Excellent experince and had no roomate both times I was there. It was great!

Re: Girls that delivered in Suffolk Hospitals
I had my daughter Reese in St. Charles 9 weeks ago, it was an awesome expierience, the nurses are fantastic, no pressure, very causual atmosphere, smiles... and the breakfast buffett ..yummy.. you can eat when you get up..no specific time, eat drink as much as you want. There was no one in my room so it was sorta private, they were setting mom up in rooms that were empty so it was private. My sister was allowed in labor and del even after she was born, I had no probs with family coming, even my 6 ry son came up during all visiting hours. Drawback is shower is smaller then a stand up tanning unit, if your a big girl to start with then your butt will stick out..

I have to say the next time i deliver there i'll be getting a private room to me the extra money is worth it. Sharing my room was a nightmare!!
Another con is the showers are VERY small. But the staff is very nice.
