Girls who are Insulin Resistant (PCOS related)
I am currently on 1500mg of metformin a day. I was wondering if you girls have remained on metformin (or an equivalent) throughout your pregnancy, and if not, when did you stop taking it?
Has you IR been an issue throughout your pregnancy?

Re: Girls who are Insulin Resistant (PCOS related)
They had me stop the Met the day I got my BFP. I'm not insulin resistant though.

Hmmmmm I'm still on it. I guess because I AM IR. If you don't mind me asking, why are you on met? If you don't want to post, you can FM

Re: Girls who are Insulin Resistant (PCOS related)
I just took my last pill yesterday, the doctor had me start weaning off of it last week. I am almost 17 wks. I was on it because i have high testosterone. My RE actually told me to go off after we saw the hb but I didn't feel comfortable about stopping at that time, so I spoke with my OB and they had me stay on it for longer.
I am not IR.

I was on it initially to try to regulate my cycles. But because I'm also older the doctor wanted to keep me on it because Met is also known to help with egg quality.

Re: Girls who are Insulin Resistant (PCOS related)
So it's "safe" to stay on through the first trimester? If it is, I really think I'd want to stay on it as long as possible considering my insulin issue and the risks of MC.

I've been on the Met for a few months - my MD told me once I got a BFP I'd stay on it through the 1st trimester

I am not IR but I was on Metformin to help regulate my cycles. They kept me on the Metformin until they saw the HB at 6w5d and then I stopped taking it.

I'm still on 1500mg of Met a day. I am IR, so that's probably why. My RE said that staying on the Met would drastically reduce the risk of gestational diabetes.

Re: Girls who are Insulin Resistant (PCOS related)
I was on it until 12 weeks and then they switched me to insulin injections but they tested my GTT at 9 weeks and I failed miserably I was told that it can help prevent 1st trimester miscarriage so they kept on me on it until 12 weeks

Be careful what you ask for, lady!!! When I was 5 1/2 weeks, I said to DH, "well, looks like I won't be getting morning sickness!"
