give me the pros and cons of glass shower doors

We have them in one of our bathrooms. I am debating whether or not to keep them. Right now, I bathe my son in the other tub, but may start using the tub with the shower doors eventually, since we will be moving bedrooms soon. I think they are a PITA to clean, but another mom told me she liked bathing her child with them, because they contained a lot of the splashing in the tub.

Thoughts?

I find it more difficult to reach DS when he bathes in the tub with the shower doors. The tub is right next to the toilet and the doors only open so much. With a curtain, you can just move it wherever you need. Not to mention he loves to hit them with bath toys. They do contain the water better though.

Pro: I like how you feel when you're actually taking a shower (feels like there is more space, etc) and I think it keeps in more warmth when I'm bathing.

Con: PITA to clean. At least with a slower liner you can just throw it out when it gets nasty.

I like how they look, and do think they keep the water inside more, but the biggest con to me is the cleaning. They are SOOOO difficult to clean, and when we redo the bathrooms in the new house, we won't be getting them again.

Re: give me the pros and cons of glass shower doors

My thoughts on them are pretty much cons...

I'm not crazy about the tracks for 1. they get scuzzy, even with cleaning and 2. Have you ever stubbed your toe, stepped on, sat, leaned over them... ouch.

I'm also not crazy about cleaning the glass. I know they now make special spot/haze resistant glass and great cleaners but still don't care for it. And the squeegie thing... had it in our last home and just don't want to squeegie the shower every time!

Also... I have a fear of slipping and falling, breaking the glass and slicing myself in half with no one home! Okay the odds of that really happening are slim to none but you never know! Chat Icon

Besides... I like to add flair to the room with fabric so I like a curtain!

I hated the glass doors on our old shower!!! They were a PITA to clean. The tracks were annoying with the scuzzy buuild up, if you didn't stay on top of it.

I've actually known more than 1 person to fall through the glass & get hurt
(one pretty seriously), but those may have been stall showers, if that makes a difference.

I would find it hard to lean over & bath a child with the track in the way. I always had that problem tryng clean the tub when I had them. You also can only open it halfway, unliek a curtain you can shove to teh end to get it out of the way for bathing a child & cleaning the inside of the tub.

I didn't find the doors hard to clean--it was the track that drove me crazy.

Neglected to mention one big pro-

DH gets water everywhere - I like that there isn't water all over the floor after HE takes a shower. Chat Icon

When we were renting an apartment the shower had glass doors. In the middle of a hot summer night DH and I both awoke to what sounded like a lightening crash and then the sound of pouring rain. We awoke panicked looking for what caused the noise, followed the sound, and found that one of the shower doors had shattered and there was tiny pieces of glass everywhere. Very scary.

Re: give me the pros and cons of glass shower doors

Pro: I love the look. I think it looks so much nicer than a shower curtain.
No sticky curtain getting in the way of your shower. More space.

Con: they are a pain to clean, but I have OCD so I clean it after every shower with the squeegee. That makes my weekly cleaning much quicker & easier.

cons: can be tough to clean, people can see exactly what is in your shower, tough to give a child a bath with it.

pros: opens the room, looks more "modern", shower curtains get nasty Chat Icon
