Giving birth while sick
Has anyone ever given birth while sick? With a household with a 4 year old, 1 year old, and two adults that work in schools, it seems like we are constantly getting sick since the weather turned cold.
I'm 38 weeks pregnant and the doc won't let me go past 39 due to GD and a bad history. My fear is that I or someone in my family, will get the new one ill.
Anyone been in this situation before?

Re: Giving birth while sick
I seem to be sick when I deliver. And this one is no different. Just with colds though. My daughter is in school too. I have 2 toddlers at home who seem to always have a cold. Are you breastfeeding? With my second Dc I ended up with the flu when he was a few months old. I kept breastfeeding like crazy. He never got it! And he was sleepIng in my room still. Obviously try to keep the sick kids away and don't kiss the baby's face when actively sick. But I do swear by breastfeeding through the winter at least, if that's what you plan. And I wouldn't worry!

I'm not breastfeeding so I'm not worried about that aspect. Just these lingering colds that do not seem to go away. I felt a bit better today and hopefully with some warmer temperatures it will help knock it out of the house. And I'm buying a giant thing of hand sanitizer to have on tap as well!
Thanks for the reassurance!

Giving birth while sick
This is me right. Now. As in holding my 12 hour old baby. Lol. I have no voice but other than that I had a csection so it hurts if I have to cough a bit but not totally different. I had gd too and hypertension. Those have not been affected. Feel well and easy delivery!
ETA. I am attempting bf and no one has said not to

Breastfeeding actually reduces the chance of your baby getting sick because they are getting the antibodies your body is making to fight whatever illness it is. I’m assuming that’s what the PP meant.

I'm 99% it is not the flu...but these colds are lingering on and just going around the house like crazy. Hopefully the warmer weather will help...and of course, plenty of rest....which is impossible when you have two little ones already, work full-time and have another about to pop out!
I see my OB tomorrow so I will talk to her about it and if there is anything I can do prior to delivery.

Giving birth while sick
i was sick when i delivered hailey. They gave me antibiotics but it was probably viral because they did nothing. Coughing was the hardest to deal with right after delivery.

Re: Giving birth while sick
When I had my 4th baby. I got pink eye in the hospital, one of my older kids came home from school sick, my husband had strep throat as well as pink eye and the whole house ended up with pink eye except the baby. The baby was fine. Just keep everyones hands washed and don't touch the baby's hands.

Re: Giving birth while sick
I had a miserable terrible head cold when I gave birth to my daughter. She was born unexpectedly small full term so she needed to spend a full week in the NICU. I will say that I didnt hold her much the first day or two because I was so sick and I was terrified of getting her sick. but because she was in the NICU she also needed to spend time in the incubator to maintain her body temp anyway. She never caught my cold. I ended up with shingles a week later (likely from stress of pregnancy) and she didnt catch that either! Try not to worry!!
