Godmother paying for Baptism Gown - Question wwyd?

Please don't quote.

My DD's godmother said she would like to pay for DD's gown as her gift to her (SO sweet and generous)! For a multitude of reasons she was not with us when we purchased the gown. THe gown was $$$$$ and i don't want her to have to foot the whole bill. How do I present this to her? I'm thinking of saying - it costs whatever you feel comfortable paying...or, asking her how much she wanted to contribute towards it or something like that. OR, should i lie and say it costs less than it did?

How should I word the conversation without offending her and without making her feel like she should pay for the whole thing.

Also, what is an ok amount to ask her to spend - how much is a typical gown?

THanks so much in advance!

I'd lie and say it cost $50. I'd say the average is b/w $50 and $100, but this way, if she wants to give more, she can give a necklace, bond, or whatever.

The avg price I noticed were $75-$100. Does she have any kids? Does she have any idea what price range gowns run? If she does maybe she expected to pay up to $200? Chat Icon

I would lie about the price as the PPs said so she feels good about buying something and she doesn't have to feel bad if the full amount was above the budget she had in mind.

wow. Chat Icon in that case, i'd just tell her that it was a sweet and generous offer, but you already purchased the gown, and maybe she could buy a cross instead.

My SIL is godmother for my two girls. Their gowns were $$$$. She wanted to pay for them I refused to let her pay for them. I just couldn't. I wouldn't even tell her how much they were.

dont feel bad, thats about what we paid for DS outfit. Like you it was so expensive, I would have NEVER EVER let my sister, DS godmother pay for it. So, if she insists, lie.

Re: Godmother paying for Baptism Gown - Question wwyd?

It's tough, I'm going through the same. Just be vague and let her pay what she feels comfortable with.

The outfit we picked for DS was $200. But add customization, shoes, socks, and bib and it's now up to $350.

When the godmother asked, I said told her not to worry about it bc it was expensive. She insisted I tell her so I said $200 (bc that;s what the outfit alone originally cost). She told me to let her know if it came out to more bc sh'ed give me the money but I couldn't. The two times she's asked I've just sort of shrugged and changed the topic.
