Going out for the first time with a newly potty trained DC
We are on day one of potty training, and so far, 2 success and no accidents! Definitely think DC is ready. We will hang out for the next few days at home to give her time to adjust. I'm just concerned about going out for the first time with a newly trained toddler. Any tips/advice? How about when they need to go when you are in a store, driving, etc? how do you manage to get to the toilet in time?

I try to stay close to home the first few weeks, and ALWAYS hit the bathroom as soon as we get to our destination :)

BTDT! The first few long trips he wore a pull up just incase. But you will see, they will have to use EVERY public restroom. I also bought a travel potty for the dar, that we've used a lot. (on long car trips, or at playgrounds with no bathroom) This is the one we got.

I would get some of those potty covers....I can't remember the exact name of them, but the same company that makes the Table Toppers makes them. They are waterproof so the pee that is left on the seat from the previous person doesn't soak through

Re: Going out for the first time with a newly potty trained DC
This is the problem that we are encountering now. DD is 26 months and stays dry at home - she even stays dry to drive to the pool (10-12 mins drive) and all day at the pool (she goes on the potty although I do put a swimmie on) she goes consistently on the potty even when we are there for several hours, and stayed dry on the way home plus for 2 quick errands. For us - I get "uh oh mommy I HAVE to go potty NOW" when we are in the car and going somewhere that is a 30 mins drive. I don't have a car potty I'm getting one but don't have it yet. That is when we have accidents. We also had one minor one when we were in buy buy baby and I had to run her across the whole store to the potty she only went a small amount and then held it until I got her there. For a short time I started doing pull up OVER underwear for those trips "just in case" but it made her regress a bit - so I am doing away with the pull ups all together (except at night). I was considering doing the 3 day potty training - but she is now back to day 2 with no pull ups and accident free. I put something on the car seat now "just in case". I read on here many people use pet wee wee pad or chuck pads on their car seats just in case they don't make it.
I always make sure we sit on the potty right as we are ready to walk out the door - that buys us a little time. But she still sometimes has to go every 30 mins and then others every 2-3 hours so I never know what I will get.
I didn't go through this with DD#1 - she potty trained completely differently and I didn't worry about accidents (she wouldn't train before 3.5 and then said I'm ready today - day 1 we had 4 accidents then she was dry 100% of the time since - and we night trained within 5 days). I didn't worry about whether she would make it by the time we were going out - as she started on a 4 day holiday weekend and with school closures we had 5 solid days at home in snowy winter so I knew she was okay. I don't feel confident yet that DD won't have accidents out so I'm trying to figure that out here too. Other parents I speak to IRL - all have car potties and swear by them - easy to run your child to the car, easy to pull over if you need it etc.

Make sure they go to the bathroom before you leave Don't go too far from home Have a travel potty just in case Ask them while you're out if they have to go
If they make it without any accidents, or if they let you know they have to go while you're out - make a big deal about how grown up they are and how proud you are of them!

It is very hard to open and close the first few times. I needed DH to do it so that wouldn't have been good if we needed it. It has loosened up but still takes a lot of strength to open. But otherwise its great. You can use regular ziplock bags and throw them right into the garbage. Not messy at all.

That is good to know I will practice with it when it comes or leave it open in my trunk. I liked it b/c you didn't have to buy a ton of bags for it - you could use zip locks. Thank you!

Re: Going out for the first time with a newly potty trained DC
I did the 3 day potty training and by the 3rd day I was definitely confident enough to bring her out. A couple of times I had to stop at a McDonalds or something so she could go to the bathroom but she quickly learned to hold it and I definitely pushed my luck a couple of times asking her to hold it. But she never had an accident. I would always make her try to go to the bathroom before we left the house and if we were going to be out for a while, I would make her go if the store had a bathroom
