Going to Zac Brown at Citifield on Fri - train or drive?
I've never taken the train to any events in that area (ball game or US Open). One of my friends that I'm going with just mentioned that maybe we should take the train instead of driving in. But I feel like I've heard horror stories about getting the train home - that it could take hours (I know it could also take hours to get out of the parking lot and drive home, but I think I'd rather be stuck in my car than on a packed train). Can anyone offer any thoughts/ experience? Thanks!
ETA: coming from Suffolk and would most likley take the train to/from Huntington or Deer Park

I'm not sure where you live, but I would drive. The train is right there, but I hate being dependent on the train, especially on the weekend for events, unless I have to go to NYC. I'm driving there on Saturday, but I'm Queens/NAssau border anyway. have fun! I can't wait!
Edited to say it won't take hours to get out of the parking lot there either.

I drove to see the Foo Fighters are citi field. Getting home was horrendous. Took us 45 minutes to drive a mile to the highway - not exaggerating. We were parked in the lot across the street, maybe the main lot was different. WE didn't have a choice, thats where we were directed.
I said I'd never go back, lol, but if I did I drive to a stop on the Port Washington line and take the train from there.

I don't think the LIRR stops there for events only games.

Oh no. Unless I absolutely have to I don't do the LIRR.
We will be driving for sure.

The LIRR definitely stops at Willets Point on Fri - I checked the schedule. And I know it runs to/from there during the US Open

DH and I are driving in - we live fairly close in Bayside. Even though the train is only a 10 minute ride, I don't want to deal with the hassle of the train since I walk with crutches. Parking is $30 for the concert.
If you take the train, you have to change trains at Woodside. That is the only place you can pick up the Port Washington line from any other line.

Drive.
The trains at night are very limited and if the concert ends too late, you may get stuck. Even though leaving by car after was crazy, it was better than sitting at the station waiting forever for the next train or missing it completely.
Looking at the lirr schedule, if you're going to Huntington, you have to make the 10:06 or 10:36, change at woodside and then Hicksville. If you miss those, it's 11:06, change at woodside then Jamaica and it's an additional 30 min ride. Miss that one and you have to take a 12:06, same changes and it's a total of 2 hours.
It's similar for deer park.
Personally I was happy to be in my car, in the air conditioning, and not have to worry about anything but traffic.
ETA: I was at foo fighters and the concert wasn't over in time to take any train before 11, unless you left early. Not sure about the band you're seeing.

I plan on driving and I am going on Friday. I hate public transportation and avoid it at all costs the person I am going with suggested the train but she knows I am not a fan so is she not pushing it!

I just checked LIRR and you are correct. I am probably going to take the train from Bayside so we can go out to dinner before and drink

Exactly what I'm afraid of. Pretty sure we're going to drive in.
Thanks everyone!

What do you think it will be like that I should be worried about? Will be on it for 10 min. Drunk people and crowded??

I think it's because aside from the drunken crowds, the trains get so packed that you might not even be able to get on one for a while. I feel like I've heard about that in the past and that was my biggest concern with taking the train
