Good Samaritan Hospital Mommies - C-Section Question

Hello! I'm new here! A girlfriend suggested I check this site out for advice/info about my pregnancy!

I am having a c-section at Good Samaritan Hosptial and was wondering if anyone here (who is going to have their baby there or has had their baby there) can share some info about how this hopsital does things.

For example:Chat Icon
- Do they allow the husband in for the epidural?
- How many days are you there for?
- Can you choose stiches over staples?
- Do they allow your husbands to stay there overnight?
- Are there private rooms?

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. I'm nervous and just want to be prepared!!Chat Icon

Re: Good Samaritan Hospital Mommies - C-Section Question

I delivered there two years ago.

- Do they allow the husband in for the epidural? YES! My Dh was in the delivery room the whole time.

- How many days are you there for? I was there for 3 days

- Can you choose stiches over staples? They didn't give me an option, but I'm sure you can ask you Dr that in advance.

- Do they allow your husbands to stay there overnight? I don't believe so, but maybe if you have a private room.

- Are there private rooms? Yes, they book up fast, but you can call and ask the hospital if you can pay for a private room. The rooms normally have two bed in it.

Do they allow the husband in for the epidural? Not sure as I was knocked out for mine for medical reasons. But when my sister had hers kids they made my BIL leave the room that was 2 years ago.

- How many days are you there for?
She was born Mon afternoon. I was supposed to stay till Fri but I begged my Dr to let me go on Thurs so he did

- Can you choose stiches over staples? Not sure

- Do they allow your husbands to stay there overnight? They probably would, esp if you didn't have a roomate. They are supposed to leave when visiting hours are over but DH didnt leave sometimes till 1 AM and no one ever said anything to him

- Are there private rooms? Yes but not that many. Maybe 3 or 4?

Re: Good Samaritan Hospital Mommies - C-Section Question

My Sister just had a baby there two weeks ago , Iwill answer for her...

Do they allow the husband in for the epidural? NO...And I never heard of any OR allowing that....The Husband is allowed in immediately afterwards.

- How many days are you there for?
She left on day 4

- Can you choose stiches over staples? Its the Dr's choice

- Do they allow your husbands to stay there overnight?
Not unless its a private room

- Are there private rooms? There are currently 2 But the hospital is very often over loaded with Maternity patients and sends the overflow to the 4th floor. There is a good chance if you are on the 4th floor ( maternity is 5th floor) that you will get a private room, they dont like to have post partum patients mixed with regular hospital patients.

Did you get your Epidural in the delivery room before you went to the Operating room? B/C All hospitals on LI have a strict policy of no-one allowed in the operating room when a Spinal is being performed.

Re: Good Samaritan Hospital Mommies - C-Section Question

I had a scheduled c-section there August of 2007...

My husband was in the pre-op room with me, and then had to wait in the hall while they did the spinal, the catheder and prepped me for surgery...they brought him in right as the Dr. was making the incision.

I went in on Thursday and came home Monday. I could have gone home SUnday, but my blood pressure went up a bit so they wanted to keep me one more night. I do know they will NOT let you go home if you haven't had a bowel movement (or so the nurses told me).

As for stiches / staples, I think it's an individual Dr. thing, so check with your OB...I had staples and my Dr. removed them before I left the hospital.

DH did not stay overnight, nor was I given the option...I am not sure if they allow it or not...As for private rooms, I heard there were a few, but hard to come by...

I don't have anything to compare it to as far as other hospital stays, but I had a GREAT experience there...and I won't have future children anywhere else...

Re: Good Samaritan Hospital Mommies - C-Section Question

- Do they allow the husband in for the epidural?
No, they did not.
- How many days are you there for?
Three nights, 4 days. I left one day early by choice.
- Can you choose stiches over staples?
Neither, had no say. It was surgically glued. Kind of cool.
- Do they allow your husbands to stay there overnight?
He didn't but they never bothered him. we were in a private room.
- Are there private rooms?
Yes, I was in one. I did not request this. The room is the size of a closet.
