Good for you for making the effort to contact all those groups!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I know some people consider those geese nuisances (and I'm sure they can be) but they do mate for life and they do grieve. It's heartbreaking to watch them after one of them has been killed. It's bad enough when it's an accident but for someone to do it deliberately is just disgusting.

I hope that guy has to answer for his behaviour. Someone with that level of disregard for a living being is dangerous imho.

I'm the actual witness to the brutal display of animal cruelty, and I'm so happy to see so many people involved. It means so much to me that I wanted to make sure everyone received an update as to what is going on.

Just to reply to a couple of posts, I have no vendetta against James, and we got along for 5 years since I've worked here. The problem with the bug in the sandwich was a separate incident, and was solved.

Everyone who works in the industrial park knows that the geese cross the roads and that accidental problems happen when people speed. This was in the back parking lot area, and at 6:30am so no one (other than me) witnessed the event.

He revved his engine, and purposely aimed for the geese, I can attest to that 100%. He didn't swerve, he didn't turn, he purposely drove to hit as many birds as possible. 2 died, and many other wounded birds walked off. I contacted the DEC, Suffolk County Police, the Star Foundation, PETA, etc. The FWS.GOV (Fish and Wildlife Service) is on their way here right now, and they have the ability to press charges, so that's where we stand right now.

It was the worst case of animal cruelty that I've seen. It was completely negligent and absurd. The family of geese that survived huddles in a small group and sat in the parking lot for a good 10 minutes before finally walking off and leaving the back parking lot. I kid you not, it was almost like they mourned them. I wish I had a camera phone but my blackberry does not have one. The pictures on News 12 Sound Off section are taken from the Star Foundation rep (Arno) and the FWS is coming here now to take more pictures since the birds were moved to the back brush of the lot.

Also, FYI, the FWS read this post and contacted me regarding any other witnesses, so they saw your posts, and heard what you had to say. Thanks SO MUCH for the support, and again I'll keep you posted.

Tim

Thank you so much for taking the time to get involved. Most people would NOT have followed up and I am so glad you did!

I care for some ducks at a pond and had an injured goose that was hit by a car - it is very difficult to get them treated Chat Icon

My mom works near there and they USED to use that deli - I called her this morning and told her to boycott it Chat Icon

They are absolutely a problem in Hauppauge, BUT you DO NOT take it upon yourself to do something about it - you take your compliant to DEC or F & W. (I know you weren’t condoning it, just quoting you because you’re correct that they are a nuisance)

It’s like any other act of ‘vigilantism’, there’s no place for it – ESPECIALLY for poor animals that don’t know they’re even doing anything wrong.

Thank you for the update, Im sorry you had to witness and see that happen. I work up the block and see that family of geese every day-sometimes we go out and feed them but they hang out by our building in the afternoons....I was horrified when I read this and hope that something is doneChat Icon

This is amazing - on every level.

On another note: Like swans, geese mate for life. I believe that they do mourn when one is taken from them.

I dont know him at all so I cant speculate. Just wondering ...could something have gone wrong in this scenario? Like maybe he meant to hit the brake but hit the gas? I have to see some type of maybes bc who does this....

I just want to clarify, there is no doubt in my mind as I saw the whole thing. He completely aimed at the geese, as his original path changed to directly steer at them. No swerve, no turn, like a normal person would have done if it was an accident. He was going AT LEAST 45-50 mph at the point of impact.

You are an angel and a very brave person who deserves commendation for doing all that you have done. Tell us again, what do you want US to do to help you? Please, what can we do?Chat Icon

I am still sick over this, picturing what you saw. It must haunt you....I am sad thinking what these geese must have felt watching their loved ones die. And what about the babies and injured geese who fled? They will likely die a slow death injured out there...I am so so sad and disturbed by this.

Is anyone trying to find the injured ones?

You are a very admirable and wonderful person...Chat Icon

Seeing it play out in this way and watching the complete disregard he has for animals is the hardest part to get over. How that could be "fun" for someone I will never understand.

I just really want people to stop going to his Deli. There are a few eateries that are better in the area. He's served us food with bugs, they've found mold in some of the salads, and they've been fined for cleanliness violations. That has nothing to do with this circumstance, but seeing it play out in this way and watching the complete disregard he has for animals is the hardest part to get over. How that could be "fun" for someone I will never understand.

I'd love to spread the word to the Hauppauge Industrial Park and the companies located within it to stop patronizing there. I'm sure they'll barely see a dent, but I'm hoping otherwise.

I work in the industrial park and I will never go there (not that I ever have- that place is gross).
I think if everyone who works in the area spreads the word to their whole office, maybe that will help a little bit.

I really just want to see this M-Fer taken away in cuffs- please dear God- let that happen!

ETA- is there any way for us to alert the media? Newsday? News 12?
I have seen cases like this in the news before.
Does anyone have any connections?

I called my Mom's office and she e-mailed everyone in the office with the link to the news12 sound board thing. She said she'll make they don't order from there anymore.

I have not worked in the industrial park for about a year, but will ensure you...I do have friends who still do and they will know about this (if they don't already). This place was close to where my parents live and I will never eat there or buy anything from them (between the bugs, mold, and now this).

Thank you for stepping up. I really hope the book is thrown at this psycho. Chat Icon I know that they are regarded as pests sometimes, but they really don't know that and they don't deserve to be treated this way.Chat Icon
