Re: Goose KillerHauppauge Industrial Park - Breaktime Deli
This story HAS to be covered, it should be covered by all the news channels, just like all the other animal abuse stories. So I already emailed news12 and newsday.

Re: Goose KillerHauppauge Industrial Park - Breaktime Deli
I have contacts at News12 - just sent this email:
Hello,
I know you're busy, but when you get a chance, can you see if there's anything you can do to help with this. I am a huge animal lover, and am simply disgusted by this story. I figured you could help to get some publicity going, or maybe do a story on this incident. There is an Industrial Park in Hauppauge where there are several businesses located. One of the businesses is a deli called Breaktime. The owner of Breaktime deli, "James" is said to have DELIBERATELY run down a family of geese!!!! This wasn't an accident. There is a witness who said he heard James rev his engine loudly and then speed towards the geese in the REAR of a shopping center (NOT a road). He didn't swerve, he didn't slow down. He deliberately ran over these defenseless animals!!!! This story has been posted on the News12 Sound Off Board already, but I don't think there's been a news piece on it yet. I am sending you the link to the Sound Off Board, but I must **WARN YOU**, these pictures are graphic...so if you have a weak stomach, do NOT look at these photos. http://forum.news12.com//ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=963486&an=0&page=0#Post963486 The DEC, Suffolk County Police, the Star Foundation, PETA, etc. Have all been contacted already. The FWS.GOV (Fish and Wildlife Service) DID take action. They took the witnesses' sworn statement, and plan to arrest James. What he did is a Class "B" Misdemeanor, therefore they have enough to charge him. They gathered the birds as evidence and will prosecute him to the fullest extent allowed by law. Unfortunately, he'll probably get a slap on the wrist with some sort of fine. Please help get this story the attention it deserves. Thanks.

Thanks for sending that. Hopefully someone listens. Really, the outpouring of support is so great. Considering the nature of this awful act. It's so great to see so many people care.

I have emailed all of my friends and family on LI last night. Today I emailed newsday.
This is the response I got today at 3:13pm:
"this is the first we're hearing of it. someone will look into it."
I find it hard to beleive that my email 2 days after this original post is the first one. But maybe it was my header: Goos Killer in Hauppauge!
Hey, whatever works and gets this story out there!
I just e-mailed Newsday with this story as well. Hopefully the will get this pig

Yeah, they're still open. I haven't seen James but the Fish and Wildlife officer I talked to yesterday said they were going to arrest him, and as a courtesy, he'd email me to let me know when this happens.
?
Please keep us posted!

Re: Goose KillerHauppauge Industrial Park - Breaktime Deli
I just sent this story to my friend Charlie. His wife was a long time reporter for the Post and though she just left the Post 2 weeks ago to take a magazine editor job, she still has contacts there. I'll try anything!

Re: Goose KillerHauppauge Industrial Park - Breaktime Deli
Got off the phone at Newsday. We'll see if it's in the paper. She has to verify some information but I'll keep you posted.
I've been advised to keep conversation about this to a minimum so I'm going to be deleting some of my posts. If anyone quoted me in any replies, would you be able to edit them? Sorry to be a pain, but it's true that I could get into a bit of trouble.
Everyone has been so kind and I appreciate the support.

Re: Goose KillerHauppauge Industrial Park - Breaktime Deli
Newsday HAUPPAUGE: Witness: Man used truck to hit geese
A man rammed his truck into a gaggle of Canada geese in a Hauppauge parking lot, according to federal and state environmental officials.
The alleged incident took place early Monday at 30 Oser Ave., said a witness who works at an adjacent business but did not wish to be named. The witness said the man intentionally hit the geese at high speed, killing two and injuring another.
Canada geese are protected under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, meaning it is illegal to hunt, kill or possess them without a permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Both agencies are investigating the matter, federal and DEC officials said yesterday, but they declined to disclose details of the alleged incident.
"No charges have been filed at this time but there is an ongoing investigation," said Lee Schneckenberger, a Fish and Wildlife Service special agent. "Federally it's a class B misdemeanor."
