got a dose of reality today
i am sorry, i havent been on lately and this is probably the main reason why,...
i apologize because i know my posts latly have been about the same thing, my BFF.
anyway, so she has leukemia... most ppl who read my posts knwo this..
so we were out at a bar today and we were talking about tattoos (shocker) and she was saying how she was gonna get soemthing and i told her "do NOT get that, it will look so bad when youre old"
so she was like "i am old" and i was like "no, i mean when youre OLD. like 80"
to which she replied "jes, i wont live that long, i wont be 80"
im sorry, it was just soooooooo upsetting to me. i know she has told me before the drs say on avereage ppl with her cancer live about 15 years after being diagnosed.
she WAS in remission... but no longer is.
im sorry to vent, i just need to get it out and this is where i thought i could.
its just NOT long enough. shes not even 40.
LIFE IS NOT FAIR.

I know how you feel, my childhood best friend died of cancer when I was 15 and she was 14. The five years she were sick were horrible.
Just try to be as normal as possible with her, that was what made Rachel happy

You are right Jess it isnt fair to watch someone so young and vital battle with this horrile disease. ButI agree in that you should treat her no different than before. I hope she is getting the best treatment possible.

Lets face it, cancer just sucks.
Just have some hope that something comes along in the next few years that can get rid of this, or prolong her life somehow!

I'm so sorry. A friend of mine died of stomach cancer a few years ago. It's absolute torture to watch someone go through that.

I don't even know what to say to you...the reality is so distressing. I would say try to act normal with her, but I know how hard it is sometimes.
My Mom was diagnosed recently and she's still young and I can't stop thinking about it...so how are you supposed to act normal around your friend?
All I can say is I hope she goes into remission again and she finds a way to beat the odds.

I totally know what you are going through... as I stated in the other thread, we lost DH's cousin to brain tumor (he was only 19) just this past week... life s ucks

My cousin died last March of cystic fibrosis at a week shy of his 24th bday. He had a very serious form of CF - most don't even live past childhood.
There was a time we were very close. I remember there were days he would be very optimistic about his future and want to get married and have kids (he had a few serious girlfriends - not at the same time of course  ) and there were days (usually nights) where he would talk about having a serious illness and probably not seeing his late adulthood.
In fact, we drifted apart because he began to do stupid things - gambling, spending a lot of money, etc - I know it was because he knew he wouldnt live long enough and was splurging and seeking certain "highs" that he couldnt access in his daily life, and it was heartbreaking.
But right before he died, I remember I was getting married that June, and we were talking about him being there, what he was going to wear, etc.... He died 3 mts before...
his name was Richard. Cailen's middle name is Reed. The R is for him.
