Grocery delivery
With us being so busy and DD isn't always the most well-behaved when shopping, I was thinking of using Peapod to get groceries delivered.
I was wondering if anyone has done it and how they liked it. I know there is a delivery charge, but did you find you spent more or less than actually going to the store? Were you happy with what was delivered?

Re: Grocery delivery
I used Peapod all the time. I love it. I find that I definitely spend less when I use Peapod because you can see the total go up when you add items to your cart. The only thing that annoys me is that sometimes items that you order are out of stock. And its usually the items that I want the most! lol

Re: Grocery delivery
I like Peapod, i have used it many times. The only down side, is that you don't always get the full selection of items that you would in the actual store.
if i know that i need something specific, i will go to the store...but only a sotre that lets you scan your own items...it gives my daughter something contructive to do, plus eliminates having to wait on line a bag groceries.
DH know that i have a one child at a time while shopping rule too...which helps...if DH doesn't make himself availabe for me to go shopping then Peapod it is, and his specific brand of Monster Drinks will not be purchased.

Re: Grocery delivery
I started using Peapod when I got preggos-- and I swear I will never step foot in a grocery store again! I think its great, I find I spend way less bc Im not browsing through eveything and picking things up I dont really need. And the way I look at the delivery charge is- Im saving on gas money, saving on lugging all the groveries into the car and then back out again. They come and deliver it right to your kitchen. And they always have specials on the delivery charge. And you can still use your coupons! So worth it- go for it you wont have any regrets!

Re: Grocery delivery
I have used them a few times since DD was born and I love it. You can select the time frame you want your order delivered, and some of them are "Green Times" where you can get $1 off your order. As a PP said you don't get the full selection as in the store, but for the few items we really need it gets the job done.

Re: Grocery delivery
I found peapod to be terrible. I LOVE Fresh Direct and order from them every week. I think it depends on what you are shopping for. I buy mostly organic and, alot of fresh fruit and veggies etc. I couldn't get everything I wanted/needed at peapod and I found the quality to not be that great. I have zero complaints about Fresh Direct. They have a rating system for the fruits and veggies that makes it almost like picking out your own stuff. And, they always have enough fresh organic fruits, veggies and meats that I don't have to make a separate trip.

Re: Grocery delivery
I love Peapod and actually have an order coming tonight. I have only had one problem that my cold cuts I asked for thinned sliced and they came thick.I called and they refunded me the amount for all the cold cuts although I only had a problem with one thing. The fruit and veggies are always fresh. The drivers are always pleasant and walk the bags up the stairs in my condo.

Re: Grocery delivery
peapod has great customer service.. i def recommend it if getting out with DD is too much. my only complaints are the frustration when something is out of stock and i like to pick produce myself. small price to pay to have groceries delivered to you!!

Re: Grocery delivery
I LOVE Peapod. As some have said the selection isn't AS good as the store, but you really don' spend more because you see your bill adding up and you can just shop your list and not get sidetracked (I do browse the specials though). Their service is AWESOME and they often have deals such as $15 off your first order and free shipping for 60 days.
It can also predict your order. I just hit "guess my order" and it pre-filled in the stuff I always buy. Easy peasy. plus you can choose recipes and it autoshops them or if you have special needs like an allergy or G-free, you can filter for that. I love it
I think you get an offer through referral - Linky

Re: Grocery delivery
I just placed a Peapod order about 5 minutes ago. I love the convenience and as a PP stated, the customer service is excellent. It's also great if you are on a budget because you can keep track of exactly how much you are spending. I also feel like I get more for my money because I can see all the specials together, and I go over my order a few times and eliminate unnecessary items from my list.

Shop Rite Shop From Home...you order online, then pick up the order in the back of the store...no need to go in and everything is done right form your car. I found the selection is limitless and have had no problems at all!!

Same here - and I have found pricing to be much better!
ETA - you pay a "shopping fee" but you don't tip on top of that. Prices are the same as in the store and all circular prices are the same.

They deliver to parts of LI. I live in Lynbrook, and I use FreshDirect every week. I'm happy I made the switch from Peapod!

Re: Grocery delivery
I have used peapod but I find them to be really expensive, and they don't offer the same items as in the store. I use shop at home from Shoprite, you have to pick the order up, but it's still a lot convenient than shopping.
I spend a lot less than when I went with the kids. I actually sit down and plan meals, then I shop online. I do it when I have time. I love it.

Re: Grocery delivery
I love Pea Pod. The only problem that I ever had was one time when they accidentally delivered me bags of dry ice. I stuck my hand in to pull out a food item and OUCH.
I definitely spend less than when I go to the store. It's so easy to just delete an item from the cart if I spend more than I want to. It's also so easy to line the items up lowest price or unit price to highest price or unit price.

Yes - they take coupons. I've only done this service once but the 'shopper' who put my order together called me to ask my preferences about substitutions and to correct part of my order. For ex., she noticed I bought two of something and it was a "must but 3" sale.. I found it so much easier and the $10 fee was discounted by half because it was my first order. I'll def be doing it again.

When you pull up to the pick up spot, you give them your last name, any coupons and your credit card if that is how you are paying. If you are paying cash, just give them the coupons and they will come out with a total. You open your trunk and they do the rest They will take the coupons that sometimes come in the circular (can be from a different location too) as well as manufacturers coupons.
I try to stock up on a lot of the heavy stuff when I do shop from home too - soda, snapple, etc.
I also did shop from home a day or two before Christmas - there was NO way I was going to the store to do a huge shop with the kids and the $10 was well worth it!
