Re: Guilty to admit that I'm NOT taking prenatal vits...
Hmmm. Did u try taking just a folic acid supplement in addition to getting nutrients from food? Just a thought-I think that is the most important one. Good luck and feel better

Re: Guilty to admit that I'm NOT taking prenatal vits...
DO NOT FEEL GUILTY!
I am not going to give you the whole 30 years ago shpeel, but if you can not keep them down, what is the point of you swallowing a pill to throw it up again...you may actually LOSE more vitamins that way. Honestly my OB, who is a highly respected high risk OB, told me not to worry about it either (I could not swallow and would gag mid swallow causing a choking...airway obstruction...hazard). I am currently 27 weeks and have not been able to swallow any pills yet. Yet my baby is healthy (knock on wood). Keep in mind too, one of the main reasons you should be on vitamins is because YOU (not the baby) need replenishing. The baby will get what he/she needs from you...likely at your expense. Your body will get stripped of nutrients so that the baby gets what it needs. I tried flintstones vitamins, but had to give them up after a few months. I now am on viactiv complete, which I tolerate much better.
If you have concerns talk to your OB, but do not let anyone sway you into feeling guilty and tell all to relax. Make sure you eat a healthy diet. OJ is great if you can tolerate...even better if you can get the one w/ calcium (one of the major vitamins your body will be stripped of). Eat plenty of fruits and veggies as long as you have no issues (i.e. people prone to blood clotting should limit vitamin K). Drink milk. Eat protein and get as much rest as possible. A little helpful hint w/ m/s is too eat small but very frequent meals...some tend to get more nauseous when their tummy is empty.

Re: Guilty to admit that I'm NOT taking prenatal vits...
Honestly, I filled my 9 month supply 4 times and that wasn't taking it everyday. I just couldn't remember. I tried so many ways to remind me and I never could.
With #2 I remember a little more but I still didn't take it for 9 months everyday.
Both my kids are fine. If you are getting sick try taking it on a full stomach in the morning.

I never took mine. Everything turned out fine - don't worry! It's more for you than the baby!

I'm going to be honest. I took mine for all of 2 weeks during my pregnancy and that was it. DS came out perfectly healthy and beautiful. Prenatals are more for the mother and not the baby. The baby will take nutrients from you no matter what.
Dont beat yourself up over it. There are plenty of women who cant and dont take prenatals and everything turns out just fine.

I think that for the most part your right. But a lot of studies have shown that folic acid supplements prevents many birth defects. Check out march of dimes web site.
Thats not to say if you don't take it your baby will be sick, but the chances that something may go wrong increase. So to be on safe side, its really important to take IMHO

dont worry about it!!! When you feel better youll be able to take them. Some times I would cut them in half and I could keep that down (sometimes not). Hopefully the morning sickness passess and you can try again later!

Re: Guilty to admit that I'm NOT taking prenatal vits...
Do not feel bad AT ALL!!! I ate ice cream and other "junk food" daily, missed days here and there with the pn's and Matt turned out perfectly fine. I also couldn't take the prescription prenatals...........I just couldn't swallow them they were so big, so I ended up going with the Careones from Stop & Shop. They were also super-cheap and often BOGO free.

The most important time to take folic acid supplements is in the first trimester during the greatest time of development. If you can't get those down later, just try to eat cereal that has folic acid, or drink OJ.

this really is not true. folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects--a serious problem where the neural tube doesn't close and can cause defects. it is most important in early pregnancy.
folic acid in a prenatal won't 100% prevent it, but it majorly reduces the risk. the chances are small, but they're there. that's not to say if you don't take it, your child will have neural tube defects.
so many women won't sip wine at all during pregnancy, even though most doctors say alcohol here and there won't do anything. others won't eat certain foods because they're worried, even though others eat it with no problem.
you need to do what's right for you and your health, but with your doctor's guidance.
