Gus tried to hurt Emmy and now we have to make a horrible decision....UPDATE with GREAT news!!! I have ANOTHER UPDATE! * FINAL UPDATE*

Long story short....Gus tried to attack Emmy and so tomorrow we are taking him to have him put down. This isn't the 1st time he's been aggressive. He tried to bite my niece lat week and is aggressive with everybody who is near us or in our home. It's a very sad night here Chat Icon He was our 1st baby.

UPDATE

First of all thank you all for the support and ALL of the comments. I know that everything that was said was said with support, thought, and consideration for both sides, and i'm sorry it turned into a doggy debate.

Second Gus was NOT put to sleep! About 2hours before we were to leave a man called us because he recieved an e-mail from a freind of a friend of a friend who recieved a phone call about Gus. In all over 200 people were contacted via e-mail and phone. This man is in his 40's with 2 kids in college. He and his wife have owned labs over 20years and have had up to 4 at one time. We explained EVERYTHING to him and e-mailed pictures. He and his wife live on 18acres with 2 horses, a cat, a 10yr old chocolate lab named Tank and a 7month old blk lab named Roka. They asked to meet him and he is with them now. In all it was 10hours round trip for us but worth every second. At first he growled, but then was fine with the man. To see him run and play with the dogs was a sight of beauty. His wife was ONLY worried about the other dogs and NOT the aggression. SHe feels they have enough experience and training to handel it if it is an issue. They have him until Monday and will make a decision then on if they will keep him. I was worried for him to meet her since she came home later and as she walked in I braced for the worst. Instead he, along with the other 2, ran to her and greeted her like he had known her his whole life. SHe was petting him and on the floor with all 3 dogs like it wa sment to be. It's hard to be TO optomistic, but I feel good about this. I think the puppy will tire him out enough and all the land is PERFECT for him to run and be free. They ar emostly inside dogs and you can tell they love their dogs with everything in them. As we were leaving we said to call anytime and we would come get him, but Wendy said don't worry we'll send periodic updates and pictures of his progress. It sounded like they had made the decision already, but again, we'll see.

If this doesn't work an aggressive dog rescue/rehab called today as well. The co-worker was so upset by what was happening and so sure they could help she calle dthe owner on vacation. They agreed if it didn't work to bring him down for an eval. IF he is found to be a dog they could rehab they will take him, but if not they suggest putting him down. The rehab/put down rate is 90/10. The trainer believes almost all dogs can be retrained and that Gus just needs a home that is less stressful and childfree.

Again thank you all and keep us in your prayers. I love him to pieces and NEED him to be ok.

UPDATE!!!!!!

So we spoke with Wendy tonight and they are in LOVE. They are making plans to hunt with him this fall and as we were speaking Gus and Tank were sleeping at her feet. She said he follows her like glue, but we explained that was him....he's clingy and was like that with me. She said when we left he was sad, but the dogs were all over him lickinghim and helping. After an hour he relaxed, walked over to her and out his head on her lap. He slept in bed with her last nighta nd when Keith came in he gave a small growl since it was dark so Keith slept on the couch Chat Icon Not out of fear, but because he knew the day had been tough on him and he said seeing them together was worth it. I *think* it's almost a done deal, but we are going to call on Monday to make sure. One of their sons is coming home from college to meet him on Sat so that will be the true test. She said that Tank has proven to be the Alpha and Gus tests him at times, but backs right off now. Roka just runs him ragged and the horses, well he isn't sure what to make of them yet Chat Icon

Daisy is still sad, but some extra love is helping. We talked and if she's still sad in the spring we'll adopt a cat from the himane society, since ours IS a kill shelter, for her. I'll keep you all posted, but it's lookin REAL good!

FINAL UPDATE

Gus has a new forever home. They are so in love with him and the same for him with them. He sleeps in bed with them every night, and LOVES Tank and Roka. He's thriving and they have seen NO agression AT ALL. They had their son and his froends stay with them Sat-Suna nd yes he growled, but Tank put him inhis place and that was the end of it. Wendy said it's like he has always been there and they can't imagine not having him. I'm so excited for my lil man!
Thank you all again for the support and help. I know not everybody was happy about this in the beginning, but all of your comments helped me to see both sides. I am forever thankful. It was a hard decision to make, but in the end a miracle happened and Gus is living the life I always wanted for him. Chat Icon
