What exactly happened? Was skin broken? I'm not really sure why you're going to end his life rather than trying to either train with him (I can recommend a fantastic trainer that deals with aggressive dogs/police dogs) or if you have to, give him up. Euthanasia is like the absolute last resort. Did yo dd do something to make him snap?

That's terrible, and I feel for you.
We have 3 dogs, and one hasn't taken to the baby as the other 2 have. Can I ask what kind of dog and how old he is. Ours has really been terrible...
I am so sorry...you are in my thoughts
He's a 5.5yr old yellow lab that has been aggressive to other since the day I met him and when Joe and I were dating there was a time when it was me or the dog, however, sending him to hunting school, neutering him, and being the Alpha helped. Now, though, he tried to get through the crib and then tried to jump into it while barking, hackles up and the most aggressive I have seen him. I had to kick him in the chest to get him off the crib. I know it's the right decision, but it's still hard since with Joe and I he's so great
Edite to add he's 130lbs and ALL muscle so I can't control him physically. Trust me I wish we had other options, but since the aggression is to men, women, adults, and kids/babies nobody will take him and I can't stand the thought of somebody else hurting him, and or him hurting somebody else.

Re: Gus tried to hurt Emmy and now we have to make a horrible decision.
I am sorry you are going through this. I can't imagine having to make such a decision. My neighbor had a similar issue with her lab and it turned out he was diabetic. They still had to re-home him but with insulin daily he was able to live in a child free home. My heart goes out to you and your family
eta just saw you most recent post. You are doing the right thing. Your child's safety comes first no matter what.

NOTHING different then any other time. I don't trust him to be with her in the same room. How can we live like that? How can I live with him hurting somebody else?

I feel very sorry for you.... If you have already exhausted all the rescue options, then this seems to be the only option left.. which I know is a choice to make..
I am very glad the baby is ok..

Lindi we dealt with the same decision a few years ago with my dog (who lives with my parents). We contacted NUMEROUS places and no one would take him because he was aggressive towards adults, not children.
We ended up getting a very skilled trainer who was only minimally effective.
I am so paranoid to have him around DS and I watch him like a hawk when we are at my parents house. I hate going there because of it. He has growled and snapped at DS and I am at my wits end.
Don't feel like you have to justify your decision anymore

Very unusual for a lab..so I know this must be killing you.
Before I was born, my parents had a golden, my brother was in his crib, and my mother went into get him, the dog lunged at my tiny mother, and showed his teeth, then attacked. He was protecting the baby. Even my mother was a threat. Other things had happened prior, and they wound up putting the dog down.
My father STILL (30 years ago) gets emotional over this. Who knows what would have happened if they had kept him? Also, he may have calmed down and become a wonderful companion for us...BUT..they are still animals, and while I agree that it is sad to put him down..you have obviously looked into everything.
I hope you can find a home for him, and possibly put off what you are planning on doing. Either way, I am sorry that you are in this situation. I am sure you didn't post this to be judged.

Re: Gus tried to hurt Emmy and now we have to make a horrible decision.
I just wanna say I'm not trying to make you feel guilty. I don't want it to come off like that at all. I know you said gus was your first baby and you don't really do this so I'm trying to give you some info on other options. Wish u were on li cause my trainers (best friends) are unbelievable and can pretty much turn around any dog. If he doesn't get walked a lot, maybe try that for a few days and give him more attention, it could be something simple like that but if you still don't feel comfortable, by all means, you have to do what's right for your family and what makes you feel most comfortable!

but rather than put him down, could you surrender him to a rescue organization? maybe he just needs a home without children. there are also animal sanctuaries that will take animals who have been aggressive. I agree. Please reconsider ending his life just because he's not a good fit for your family. The thought of this horrible act is making me very sad.
i agree with the above posters. i worked for a rescue organization and many will be very sympathetic to your situation and will help you out. please do not put him down before considering other options.
I agree
I agree!
ETA - I read your response to this - sorry!

Wow, that's so scary!! I'm so sorry you're in this position, but you're doing the right thing. With all the information you provided, two months would be too much time for me to wait when the safety of my child is at stake.

I understand that people love their dogs and that they are like family, but there is a line.
I would not keep that dog in my home 1 more day.
I am very sorry you are going through this, but in the end, you will know that your DD is safe.

Re: Gus tried to hurt Emmy and now we have to make a horrible decision.
I agree. So easy to tell others what they should do when you're not actually in the situation.
To the OP- it sounds like you've done your best by contacting rescue groups. NO ONE should feel that they or their children are unsafe.
Sorry you are going through this. I hope one of those rescue groups comes through for you or that you find some peace in all this.
ETA: I admit my initial reaction to your OP was that you'd move so quickly to euthanasia. You might want to update your post to include all the additioanl information so people know this isn't a snap decsion on your part.

I'd be scared out of my mind to have the dog in my house after an incident like that. So glad your DD is okay!
You did your best to try to rehome him. You have to do what's best for your family and for others' safety.
So sorry you have to go through this and make this decision.

As a fellow lab owner and mom, I am truly heartbroken for you. Cosmo is my first baby and I can feel how sad you are over this.
You have truly done all you can to find him another home. Its sad that a rescue organization can't help and the fact that you sat and contacted so many truly shows how hard you worked.
Its an awful situation and you are doing the right thing for your family and their safety. I wish you the best and am so sorry that you're going through this right now
