ITA. I am a dog lover and have 2 large dogs myself. But an infant comes first. This dog sounds like a danger to everyone around him.

I am truely sorry that you've been pushed to even make this decision- I can't imagine how difficult it is for you. I love my dog so much and have put a lot of work into making her the dog she is today, but that safety of my family comes first. It seems as though you have exhausted all options and this is the only thing left for you to do.

but rather than put him down, could you surrender him to a rescue organization? maybe he just needs a home without children. there are also animal sanctuaries that will take animals who have been aggressive.
I agree. Please reconsider ending his life just because he's not a good fit for your family. The thought of this horrible act is making me very sad.

Thank you everybody for ALL of the comments. Joe spoke with another aggresive dog specialist last night in Ohio 7hours away and his suggestion was to put hiom down as well since he also could not take him, and honestly said the aggression he showed me after the crib incident was a HUGE red flag. Joe works a 4day weekend and the thought of being home alone with her and him scares me. After yesterday I spent the next hour in her room crying because I was to scared to take her out of her room nd couldn't leave her since she was awake. The decision is easy...Emmy comes first, but the follow through is the hard part.

You have obviously NOT read all of this post. The dog has shown aggresion towards adults and children. She has attempted to contact agencies and have the dog placed to no avail. So unless you're willing to take the dog from her, I don't think it's fair for you to try to make her feel bad about a situation she already feels terrible about.

I am so sorry you have to make that decision! You are doing what is best for your family and that is all that matters.
I have two dogs and one has been aggressive towards Chelsea. I am constantly on edge when they are in the same room together. I've even asked my mom to take him but she said no.... We are kind of in limbo right now on what to do.
I know it is such a difficult choice!

Labs are protective dogs. We had one when I was younger (16) and a girl living with us had just had a baby. Well the dog (DOC) started acting aggressive toward the baby and ANYONE that would go near it. I went to get the baby from the crib one day when he was crying and the dog lunged and took a HUNK out of my leg. I still have a huge scar on my thigh. Sorry but there is a line and the dog (as much as you love him) has crossed it. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for your decision. Because they aren't in your situation. Your baby comes FIRST!!!!!!!!

Coming from someone who is in a very similar position with a lab mix,many shelters that we have called are A. reluctant to take an older dog and B. even more reluctant to take a dog that has shown aggression, since they are most likely NOT going to be adopted in the future...It's an awful thing to to say, but it's true...It's really easy to tell someone to find another home, but finding another home isn't as easy as it seems when it comes to aggressive older dogs...my dog happens to be frightened of other dogs and honestly the thought of putting her in a shelter or an environment with other dogs breaks my heart as well, bc I know she'll flip...so honestly there is no right or wrong...most of you know that I've tried EVERYTHING for my dog, and while she is still with us, and we are trying everything to find her a home..sometimes if the history of the dog is so bad, putting her down maybe the only option...I'm sorry I'm a HUUUGE dog lover, and my dog is my first baby, and just telling the OP things she should do (which she probably did already) is not helping!
