Had a meltdown on the train (long vent)-UPDATE!
UPDATE: So DH was so mad about this that he ended up making a call and told me after the fact. The person he spoke with told him that I should've been giving the option to take a bill and was apologetic. He gave her all the info and now they're looking into it and will get back to us in a few days. I'm not really looking for anything out of it...I just want someone to tell that rude man that he was out of line for his attitude and not following protocol and giving me a bill. ---------
Not off to a good start today! I had a dr's appt (which was fine) so going to work a little late. I forgot my new monthly pass but they usually let you use the previous month's pass in the am. The conductor told me it was fine. Then, I had to switch trains and the new conductor said I couldn't use it. I told him I was told I could and he said he expired at 10. I pointed out that it wasn't 10, but he said it would be by the time we got in. So I went in my wallet to pay and only had $8--he was charging me $14. I told him that was all I had and asked if he was really going to make a 9 month pregant woman get off the train? He went on how I was refusing to pay and the fact that I was given false info wasn't his problem. So now I started getting sh@tty with him and told him that I hoped he felt good about himself. I know that thet have their rules and yes, I didn't have a valid ticket, but I've seen other conductors let people go and in my 9 years of commuting, I've even been let go. At least take what I have! I've seen them give people with no cash a bill to mail in. So I got off at Mineola--crying. I called DH. He was livid at them but also mad at me because A) I didn't have enough cash on me--I never have cash. B) He doesn't want me commuting much longer, even though I plan to go until the end. And this just proved that it was "starting to stress me out."
So now I'm still sitting here waiting for a train--still crying. I'm clearly hormonal, but so aggravated!
Thanks for letting me vent!

Re: Had a meltdown on the train (long vent)
Definitely file a complaint - give them as much information as you have. The conductor should NOT have asked you to leave the train. He is required to have either billed you in full for the cost of the ticket or taken what you had and bill you the balance. He was completely in the wrong and you clearly have a case against him.Good luck and so sorry this happened to you. The LIRR is a PITA!

What a miserable SOB - I'd file a written complaint to the MTA - He was being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk.
If he absolutely had to be an a$$hole, he could have asked for your license and taken your info to send you a bill - there was NO reason to make a pregnant woman (and regular commuter) get off of a train in the rain !!

DITTO. I would have been livid. Of course you understand you were in the wrong in the first place, but he absolutely should have worked with you to rectify the situation - not been a d!ck to you. Not saying he has an obligation to give you a free ride, but really, have some compassion!

Re: Had a meltdown on the train (long vent)
That's awful!!! I took the Babylon train to Penn Station every weekend since I was 5 (parents are divorced--don't worry I didn't start taking it alone until I was older). I remember I once was having the worst day of my life thus far, I was crying hysterically, and the conductor asked for my ticket--I look in my wallet and realized I forgot it at home, didn't have any cash, and didn't have a cell phone. The conductor said he'll get back to me in a minute, and never came back! I remember being SO grateful because it was already a terrible day, and it was nice not to be kicked off a train.
But seriously--who kicks a pregnant woman off of a train who CLEARLY has used monthly passes before? I'd be livid!

Re: Had a meltdown on the train (long vent)
What a AHOLE. I used to do that ALL the time not pregnant and they would always let it slide on the first day of the month. I would honestly complain. You are 9 months pregnant and its really sh*tty outside

crashing....I am so sorry this happened to you and I completely agree w/ what all the other ladies are saying. File a complaint b/c that was BEYOND tolerable. I also have to say, as a former commuter, I am so upset another passenger didnt stepped up and defend you also, no one could of spared the few dollars and covered the rest of your ticket????

I hope your day gets better. If you can, get a cup of hot coco....chocolate always makes my day better!

Re: Had a meltdown on the train (long vent)
That is ridiculous. I have gotten on the train before (I don't ride regularly) and realized I didn't have cash and my 10 trip ticket expired. One time they let me go, another time, they just sent me a bill. Kicking a pregnant woman off the train to prove a point is just ridiculous!

Re: Had a meltdown on the train (long vent)
That's unacceptable. I commuted for years and never saw that happen. He should have taken you info and sent you a bill if he really wanted to be that much of a stickler. He was being an azz and there was absolutely no reason for that. Definitely file a complaint with the MTA. Tell them what train you were were on and what car you were in (if you can remember). I'm so sorry that happened to you. That conductor should be ashamed of himself.

Someone actually did offer to lend me money, but I was already out of my seat walking toward the door--and crying. DH said I should've accepted it, but at that point, I just felt like an a$$ and got off the train. It was nice of that person to offer though.
Thanks ladies! I'm finally here--I ended up having to hop on a train that transferred at Jamaica, so it took me 3 trains to get in--4, if you count the subway. Believe me, if I didn't have a few deadlines to meet today, I would've turned around and went home. I'm definitely going to file a complaint.

crashing....
My DH works for the LIRR and would NEVER speak to anyone like that. I hope you got his name or his conductor number (if not, don't worry they can look it up if you tell them what train you were on). I would call the Passenger Services Dept and file a complaint.
That is RIDICULOUS!!!!! What my DH will do is ask for your ID and then the LIRR will mail you a bill.

Re: Had a meltdown on the train (long vent)
I can't believe this! What a jerk! I ride the train everyday and they usually let it go or take an address for a bill. Some lirr workers are really nasty though! He should have just took your info and moved on especially since you are preggo and had to get off the train with no money.
