Hard time getting over pacifier
After a trip to the dentist & a lot of talking about giving up the pacifier, my 3 & a half year old DD decided to throw it in the garbage a few nights ago. I'm glad it was on her terms but she's still so sad about it. I thought it would get better each night but every night she cries more Part of me wants to just give it back, she won't have it forever & if it's a comforting to her, why withhold it. The practical side (& DH) says she has to give it up eventually & it's a good lesson to learn that things don't last forever. Also, since she decided to give it up, this is the result of what she chose. This parenting is too hard...& it's only over a binkey! Can't imagine what's to come

Hard time getting over pacifier
I'm actually glad she decided to throw it away. It was hard with my oldest getting her off the pacifier(4years old she threw it out). Once she did she was fine.

Re: Hard time getting over pacifier
Don't give it back! I thought it was going to be the hardest thing ever. She was sad for one night and got over it. This too shall pass. I know it's hard, but in the long run, she will be damaging her teeth with it. I got rid of DDs 2 weeks before her 3rd bday. The dentist said it was starting to damage her bite. That was enough for me to not look back.
Eta- can you maybe get a specIal doll or something to replace it?

Don't give it back.....you will only have to go through the crying for a 2nd time when you take it away again.

Re: Hard time getting over pacifier
I'm going through the same thing now. My first dd we cut it and that was that. My second(2.5) just threw hers away on Friday. I didn't even ask her but we kept warning her she was getting too big and it would break. She went into the kitchen with her 2 binkies and just tossed them. She was hysterical at night. My once great sleeper is now up constantly. I wanted to give one to her last night but held my ground. Dh says I should do whatever I feel is best because he doesn't want to be the one who gives in . I know she will eventually get over it. She thinks they are gone for good so I don't want to show her we can get another one. I really feel your pain! I wouldn't give it back because you will just have to to do this all over again!

Hard time getting over pacifier
My DS is 2.5 and he won't five it up at all. We've tried cutting the tip, poking a hole in the tip, taking it away cold turkey and telling him the binky fairy took it. Poor kid cried to the point he was holding his breath so I gave it back to him. It's definitely affecting his bite but I just can't let him cry like that. Nothing soothes him. If your dd threw it away on her own then she seems ready to an extent. Hopefully it gets easier for you!

Don't go back! She will adjust to life without her pacifier. My youngest had a tough time but we survived.
If you have any extras....take her to build a bear. Have them put the pacifiers in the animals. She won't be able to suck them but will have the close by for comfort.

Re: Hard time getting over pacifier
Don't give it back! Trust me, it is so much harder the 2nd time around if you give in. They will eventually get over it. Some just take longer than others.
