Hardwood floor installation - what scratches are acceptable?
We finally got our hardwood floors installed. There are a few tiny scratches that we are easily writing off.
However, there are two pretty deep gashes in two different spots on the floor.
What's the threshold for scratches? How many/severe do they have to be before you say something to the installer?

If it bothers you (apparently enough to post about it!), then I would say something.
I am a perfectionist and have no tolerance for "imperfections" of such nature. I would ask them to fix it somehow.

I agree. If it bothers you, I would say something. They are new and you deserve no scratches of any kind. GL!

I agree - if it bothers you, say something. "Deep gashes" IMO would be unacceptable to me!
Hardwood floors are expensive - you should be satisfied with the work!

There shouldn't be any scratches or grooves in a new floor.

I agree, and don't let the installer say it's some sort of 'natural variation' in the wood. Make them replace it ASAP.
I was house sitting while mom's floors were installed... They removed the old floor, and installed a 1/3 of the floor in the largest room. I stopped them that first afternoon, and pointed out some planks were several shades darker than others. They wanted to continue installing and argued it was 'natural variation'.
you know what that 'variation' was from? two different lots of flooring Even after discovering that, they still wanted to continue installing, becuase then, we would have limited recourse. It turned into a huge fiasco, but now mom's floor is FAB.

The fact that you posted this tells me that you are uncomfortable. Tell the installer!
