Has anyone been self employed and bought their own health insurance?
I would love some advice... Especially if you bought family coverage!

Not self employed, but had to purchase our own insurance. Through an insurance broker, we were able to purchase our own insurance, but he put us in with other groups of people so we were able to get a "group" rate, so the price was better. This was a few years ago so I dont know if its still possible, but its worth looking into because we really did save some money.

I was in the process and it was very confusing because some "brokers" were actually scammers. To buy it, it's very expensive. Upwards of $600-$1200 for an Individual plan per month. Family plans were even more, closer to $200-$2500 per month. I ended up getting insurance as domestic partnership under BF's business but even that is almost $600 per month.

Look into HealthyNY. That may be an option. Also, a lot of professional organizations will offer a health insurance option as being a part of that group such as Dentists and such.

This. We are self employed but it's a small business so we were grouped through an agent. It saved us a lot. But it's still expensive. We pay just under 1200 a month for the 2 of us. It was the best "inexpensive" choice for us.
