Has anyone been told one gender at their Sono and then baby was born the opposite gender?
The Sono machines are so good these days I couldn't see this happening too often anymore. I have had it happen to a cousin but that was twelve years ago.
So has this happened to anyone in the past 3 years or so? I just had a Sono and it got me thinking if they are ever wrong.

If i didnt have another sono, it would of happened to us last year. We were told boy, then around 30 weeks i had a sono and they said girl, and we had a girl in dec.

Re: Has anyone been told one gender at their Sono and then baby was born the opposite gender?
Depends on the quality of equipment, experience of ultrasonographer, & frequency & timing of ultrasounds.
If they don't see a penis, they may guess girl, but to confirm girl, you should see a "3 line sign".
Sometimes they can't get a good view and take a guess. A guess should be thought of as a guess.
We saw at 12 weeks the sex for our boy & at 16 weeks for our girl. There was really no way my boy's penis & testicles seen at 12 weeks were going to disappear.
However, when the OB saw no penis at 12 weeks with our girl... he said may be a girl, but "don't paint the room pink yet". We had to wait for a better, confirmatory view.
That being said, our OB does the majority of the ultrasounds & is super talented.

It happened to someone on this board. I'm not going to say who because that's her decision but it did happen in the last couple years to someone here.

Re: Has anyone been told one gender at their Sono and then baby was born the opposite gender?
Yes!!! I know of two people in my family this happened to!
My sister- was told at 20 week sono that she was having a girl (she already had 2 girls at home). Didn't buy anything figured she would just re use what she had from her other DD's. She had a scheduled C and when they pulled the baby out she and her DH were shocked when it was a boy!! We thought they were joking when they called and gave us the news. My nephew is now 15 months old.
ETA this was done at a sonogram place where all they do is sonograms and well trained in it so I was surprised.
My cousin- She was told at her 20 week sono that she was having a boy. Her shower invites went out and everything indicating she was having a boy. A week before her shower she had another sono and the dr. said they made a mistake and she was having a girl instead. So we had to rush and return stuff and buy girl stuff since we had all boy stuff for her!! lol. Her DD will be 2 in a few months.

Yes!
I had my gender scan at 20 weeks, and then didn't get another Sono until 32 weeks! My first question was "is he still a boy?"

Yes, my friend was told girl and ended having a boy. She had a princess themed baby shower, my DH helped her DH paint the room pink and made it all glitzy and girly. Well, she delivered an adorable baby boy.. needless to say, the room was quickly converted and they kept a few items and donated the rest and bought new stuff.

Well we thought it was boy parts lol, but she never printed us the shot for us to see what happened. On the screen it did look like something between the legs, im assuming it ended up being a finger or something not sure. At 30 weeks they printed out the shot and we were sure it was a girl and had the three lines.
I actually had a hard time connecting to the "boy" and felt weird everytime i said matthew ((what we picked out for a boy)) so i think mothers intuition kicked in a bit. I felt like a horrible mother for those 10 weeks bc i never had a gender preference and was confused y it didnt seem right. Soo if we go for #4 im not finding out lol

I have to say Im kind of shocked that this could happen. I was a high risk patient so I got a ton of sonos BUT they do a sono where they check the organs and dont they check for more than just testicles dont they look at their reproductive organs?
This is just straight scary LOL I havent heard of this happening to anyone I know...

Right? If I hadn't had an amnio and known from that with 100% certainity I don't think i would EVER feel comfortable with decorating the room or buying girly stuff until she came out of me! Seems like a lot of margin for error!

Re: Has anyone been told one gender at their Sono and then baby was born the opposite gender?
I will have to ask them to double check at my next sono that it's still a boy. LOL
My cousin was told a boy. She goes into labor and out comes a little girl. They had to scramble to find a name they where so in shock. My husband Aunt was told boy as well. She decorated the nursery in sports theme and out came a girl. Both where third children. But these where years ago. Surprised it still happens so much but mistakes happen.

This sounds horrible but I think I would of been kinda upset if this happened. Just because I know my desire to have a girl. ( I'm having my third boy). Of course baby is healthy and that's what matters but with the shower and decorating the room and just your mind set knowing its a girl and getting all excited about it. Was better off never finding out.

Re: Has anyone been told one gender at their Sono and then baby was born the opposite gender?
It happens more often because a lot of people want to know earlier what they are having. 12 and 16 weeks is too soon in most cases and a lot of times they say girl, it ends up being a boy... My dr checked at 20 weeks and not a day sooner... ALL boy..

Re: Has anyone been told one gender at their Sono and then baby was born the opposite gender?
I went to a 3D sono place at 16 weeks for a gender reveal. They told me boy. Tech said he was very certain. At my 20 week sono my dr said it's definitely a girl! Few more weeks until my next sono...

I had a 3D sono around 17 weeks and the tech couldn't get a good view bc the baby wouldn't move and had her back to us. First she said girl and then she switched her guess to boy. I think she saw the umbilical cord between the legs and though it was a boy. Then she ended up saying she really doesn't know because she couldn't get a good enough view. Then at my 20 week sono we saw we were definitely having a girl because we could see the three lines.
