Has anyone delivered at Good Sam AND at Southside?
I had a c/s at good sam and the whole procedure and labor and delivery was fine. My dr was great, the nurses were good. However, the maternity ward was an absolute disaster. I can't even explain how upset I was and how alone I felt. The nurses on staff were just terrible. They weren't helpful, supportive or easy to get when I was in pain or when I was still hooked up to all the machines and DS was SCREAMING on the other side of the room and I couldn't get to him to feed him. I called my DH the first night hysterical crying and sobbing and made him come back and sleep in the chair in my room because the nurses were that bad. I've heard of other new moms with the same exact experience with the maternity ward. I was thinking if I should deliver at Southside this time. Has anyone been to both hospitals? Or just southside at least and can tell me your experience?

Re: Has anyone delivered at Good Sam AND at Southside?
I delivered at Southside only. I had a great experience there Everything from L&D to the maternity floor was great for me. The nurses were so nice and helpful- they were right there for anything I needed. They took the baby back to the nursery each night at my request and brought her back in the morning with a full report on how her night went. They were friendly, professional, helpful etc. Anytime I pushed the call button they were there right away.
The only thing I can say though is I did pay for a private room- for me that was a must. It made my experience 100% better IMO.
I highly recommend Southside.

Re: Has anyone delivered at Good Sam AND at Southside?
I delivered at Good Sam and had the same experience as you. That experience along with my horrible ob/gyn practice made me switch to a midwife this time around. The office isn't that far but the hospital they use is Stony Brook and I was okay with that just so I wouldn't have to go back to Good Sam. I was nursing and had a csection and hated that DH couldn't stay the night. I couldn't even get out of bed to get DS and some times when I'd call the nurses they wouldn't even come! They weren't supportive with BF, keep telling me I was starving my baby until the last day I saw the lactation consultant and she told me that I was doing the right thing.
I haven't delivered at Southside but I have been there once last pregnancy and once this pregnancy, first time for dehydration and 2 weeks ago for gallbladder stones. They were great both times. The only thing I found odd was that I was put in labor and delivery both times and there were 3 women in each labor and delivery room, there was no privacy. It was fine with me because I wasn't in labor but the other two women in my room were and it was weird being there while they were having contractions and stuff. I had my own room at Good Sam.

Re: Has anyone delivered at Good Sam AND at Southside?
I delivered at Southside and had a great experience. The L&D nurses were amazing (I did have a private room and didn't know of anyone needing to share L&D room). The nurses in the mom and baby unit were great too. Whenever i pressed the call button they were there within a minute. I had a lot of trouble breastfeeding and the nurses were so helpful. They would sit there with me until I got the hang of it. Everyone was really nice. I haven't been to Good Sam, but know a few other people who have delivered at Southside and loved it. Also, my Doctor delivers at both hospitals and strongly recommends Southside. I hope this helps!

I had my 1st child at Good Sam. Hated it! Felt like a cramped, old hotel.
Had my second child at Southside and paid for the private room. Best decision ever. It was roomy, comfortable and private! It was worth every penny!

Re: Has anyone delivered at Good Sam AND at Southside?
I delivered both my DC at Southside & absolutely loved it. I'm upset I won't get the chance to do it again...they were really great. Both times had a private L&D room. Nurses were top notch...knowledgeable, friendly & caring; made you feel very comfortable.
On maternity floor I had a private room both times & it was worth it. They have a breakfast bar in the hall in the am & you get to interact some w/ the other moms. The nurses were GREAT though. One spent so much time making sure the baby was latching & answering any q's I had.
Everything about my experience was GREAT.

Wow! You all totally convinced me to deliver at Southside! The breakfast bar was the kicker
Can I ask how much a private room at southside was?
