I was there in 07, didnt have a private room.
I had nothing but a good exp there with nurses and so forth. I had the baby all day...walked around if I wanted to.

The maternity ward itself is old but I had a great experience there, other than my roommate! The nurses were great, quick to respond and very helpful!

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I'm going to deliver at Winthrop in August. My only experience with it so far has been thru a friend that delivered there a few years ago. She was impressed with the maternity ward, birthing suites and visiting policies. I wish I had more helpful info.

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I had my son in Winthrop in 07.. All the nurses were very nice and you can walk around all you want.. I got up a few times to walk to the nursery to get my son. Even had to go there to get more blankets and onies that he peed all over... they were all so nice...
As far as sharing a room... its ok... the only draw back is if your not BFing and your roommate does you will be woken up in the middle of the night by all the lights on...

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I second getting a private room- that made for a nice experience. The nurses and all other staff were great!
They also offered a newborn class every afternoon that was helpful! The labor rooms are really nice, too. I was happy to hang out there for a while after was born.

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I have given birth there twice in the past 16 months and honestly couldn't be happier. I thought the care for me and my babies was excellent. Sure the rooms are tight when you have visitors and it would be nice to be in a private room (I couldn't justify the added expense personally, wasn't worth it to me), but it was fine.
Best of luck!

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I just delivered there last week and I have nothing but good things to say. All the nurses were wonderful and the baby nurses are great also. I would recommend this hospital to anyone!

I had a private room for a few nights and I definitely recommend it. I thought all the nurses and staff were really nice.

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I gave birth to my first at Winthrop. I wanted a provate room but they don't have many and there were 46 babies in the nursery the week I delivered! The nurses were great. The wing is old and I hated sharing a room. I was there 4 days with a c-section and my roommate had a section as well. Her 2nd in 13 months and she was in agony and needed a lot of help. The nurses were crazy with so many woman in the ward. So that made it hard on me.
I gave birth to my second at Sount Nassau and am choosing to birth my 3rd there as well.

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I delievered there in feb this year. The room was old but was do able. I had a section and was there for the 4 days. ...and had 2 room mates. The worst part was when my room mates wanted to be on phone all nite. I requested window if i couldnt have private due to the fact i wanted privacy from all the people that came and went. The nurses.. well you always have your good and bad ones. Just make sure you ask questions and speak up. Im a nurse so i guess my standards were a little high. FM if you have any other questions.

Re: Has Anyone Delivered or Delivering at Winthrop?
I delivered at Winthrop in February. As pp mentioned the rooms are kind of old but not so bad (the L&D rooms were nice). I requested a private room but didn't get. Had a roommate the first night, she was very pleasant and sweet, and checked out early the next day, so basically I was in like a private room all to myself, totally lucked out
