Has anyone ever gone for Debt/Credit/Financial Counseling?
Did it work, was it worth it and would you recommend it to others? Thanks!

I don't typically believe in "debt counseling" as a paid service.
Debt counseling costs money, which puts you in more debt.
I would just read up on the internet and do google searches on how to reduce debt. There are tons of free forums and websites you can go to in order to get educated on the subject.
Just remember rule number one when it comes to debt management. Spend less than what you make.
Good luck!

ITA. If you have problems with your credit a good website is creditboards.com. They also have tips on how to pay everything off. Good Luck!

I agree. Debt counseling companies typically don't do much to help the situation. Do some research on them first.
I suggest calling your credit card companies and being honest with them. Tell them the minimuns are hard to make every month and see what you can do about setting up a payment plan. Most credit card companies would prefer this as opposed to settling for less then the amount owed. You may also be able to stop any late payment fees, etc.
You also want to do a budget and start cutting where ever you can. That extra money should go to the credit card with the highest interest rate along with whatever is left after paying the minimuns on the lower interest rate cards until that is paid off.
FM me if you need any more help or want to see if there are other avenues.

I agree with some of the prior posts. Sometimes going through one of these companies can actually hurt your credit. The best way is to do it on your own. I have been doing it and it's working out really well. If you want specifics on what I'm doing, feel free to FM.

I would suggest Dave Ramsey. He's pretty hardcore but his books really help you focus on getting out of debt and living debt free.

i did it and i'm so glad i did it. it took about 3 yrs to do it. and no, it doesn't ruin your credit. if i did it on my own, i would still be paying off my cards. i highly recommend it

Re: Has anyone ever gone for Debt/Credit/Financial Counseling?
I did it years ago and I loved it. They totally saved me and my credit rating was not damaged at all. And I learned my lesson - it's been over 3 years since I finished paying it off and I only use my debit card or Amex (so I have to pay it each month).
