Why do people find it so gross not to line trash bins? Its not like you are putting food in there and eating from it.

sometimes I line, sometimes I don't. I am only throwing cotton balls, maybe qtips and empty tp rolls. It never really occured to me to get skeeved since I don't root around in there - I empty it every couple of days and wipe it down when I clean the bathroom.

I don't line mine either. Garbage is removed from it a couple times a week and it gets cleaned every week. I don't see it as gross at all.

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
Every pail in my house is lined. I refuse to put a trash can in any bedrooms either bc they don't belong in there, IMO (except for maybe a diaper pail). I also despise when you go over someone's house and the bathroom trash is filled to the brim. I prefer that all the cans have covers even the little bathroom ones I know, I'm a little fanatical about it...
We always had a trash can, unlined in my parents house growing up in the bathroom and bedrooms and it skeeved me back then too! Maybe it's an old school thing?

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
Only the kitchen pail is lined. I really don't like creating extra garbage/using more plastic then I need to. Everytime the bathroom/laundry room pails get emptied, the get cleaned.

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
My mom never lined the bathroom one in the downstairs bathroom because "that was for guests" (which we never had). There is STILL soap there that we were never able to use, because it was "for guests"). Since my parents never entertained- it was almost never used.
However, under the sink there was always a garbage pail with lining for us to use.
My bedroom garbage didn't have lining either. I just used it for paper (it was under my desk). Anything else went into the kitchen garbage, which was lined.

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
I've never heard of a decorative trash can in a bathroom. What's the point?
I will agree with the OP, I think it's gross not to line your bathroom trash can. Everything from ear wax, to tissues with snot/phlegm, to used lady products, to used toothbrushes, to hair clippings, etc. can go in there. If it's lined, you toss out the grossness with the actual trash.
For those that don't do it for environmental reasons (don't want to waste the plastic bag) you may be doing more/equal damage to the environment by washing it every week (wasting water) and spraying it with Lysol (aersol spray, chemicals, etc.) Not to mention that's alot of work!

We usually line them all just because it's easier to collect throughout the week.

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
I don't line the bathroom garbage cans. They get used and emptied on a regular basis and cleaned out with Lysol every week or so.
Why would a bathroom garbage pail only be for decoration? I can think of tons of things that need to be thrown out in the bathroom. I wouldn't think of carrying my bathroom garbage to another room to throw out...

I wash my kitchen garbage can weekly and use Lyson on it, too. I would wash my trash cans whether or not they were lined. My bathroom trash cans aren't gross, don't smell... and last time I checked, no one was touching the inside or eating out of them.

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
I use bags (usually left over plastic bags from stores) but I have to say I empty them pretty often into other bags. the few that only get a couple of pieces of paper near the desk or tissues, nothing gross worthy, I usually just dump the trash into a larger bag when that is going out, instead of waiting for those to fill up. But I don't use a new bag, because IMO there not dirty in any way, and its such a waste to throw the whole bag away when its not full, but I hate trash in the pails
to answer the OP, its super rare a trash pail doesn't have a bag in it in our house, but I remember my mom as a kid din't use them in anything but the kitchen.
but this reminds me of what happened at a friends house a few summers ago, its was so gross I don't think I should share it.. but since then, they use a bag in their bathroom

I don't usually line the bathroom pails. If I remember to bring a plastic shopping bag in the bathroom then I'll do it. When it's time to empty, I usually have a large garbage bag that i go around to each room and bathroom. My hands never touch the contents of the pails.
The can in the kitchen always has a bag in it.

I never line the bathroom trash can...DH hates that but i feel that in the Bathroom it is a nice trash can that is more for show/decoration and you ruin it by having a plastic bag hanging over the side.
Plus like others have said, it gets cleaned out regularly!

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
i only line kitchen pail and the one next to my vanity in the bedroom (i reuse the plastic bags from stores.) i know that it is common for some to line the bathroom pails but i just don't like the look of it. like others said, i empty and sanitize the pail regularly. if i was a guest at someone's house i would NEVER throw ANYTHING used in the bathroom pail. EWWW!!!

But when you have a BBQ and 30 people over your house, they do NOT know this, and it gets soooo nasty. And you have to use the bathroom trashes! How can you not?
confused and curious.
perhaps this was in your unedited post but what exactly did the guest HAVE to dispose of in the bathroom pail??? other than a used tissue which could have been flushed, WTH were these people doing in the bathroom that caused the pail to fill with nastiness?

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
We usually line all of the garbage cans (kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms) lately because we throw diapers in them & it's easier to empty it out that way. However, in the pre-diaper days, we didn't always line the bathroom & bedroom cans.

I have DEFINITELY had people thrown away sanitary napkins in the trash (and leave it on top, that is how I know). I wouldn't want that in my trash without a bag. Things like that.

Oh and the floss thing that was in my post. My mom would definitely not have dropped that on the floor if she had lined the bag. And she did this many times.

I would have no problem with someone doing this. I wouldn't want anyone to think they had to walk around with it in their bag. That is what a garbage pail is for...GARBAGE!

Re: Has anyone ever yeard of this? I'm totally skeeved after staying at my parents' house!
I line ours with plastic bags from stores, but I don't find it so gross to not line. It's just easier to me to use the bags--I can grab a bunch of them to throw out with one hand and as someone else said, you don't have to fish out floss and stuff.
But if people don't line, I don't think that's gross. I don't understand the idea of a guest garbage can that no one can use.
