Has anyone had Placenta Accreta AFTER delivery? UPDATE
My DD is just about 8 weeks old and during the delivery my placenta did not want to come out. The DR "did the best he could" so I thought to get everything out. After passing out shortly after delivering from loosing too much blood I was told it was because I was anemic. Well, 7 weeks after giving birth I was experiencing some bright red bleeding. I called the DR and they thought I was just getting my period. I questioned that and asked if it had anything to do with the placenta being retained, they ordered an ultrasound and found out that I still had part of the placenta left. I went in for a D & C and wound up finding out that I had placenta accreta. They could not stop the bleeding so they put a foley balloon into my Uterus to put pressure and try and stop the bleeding. I stayed in the hospital and they did remove the balloon and the bleeding seems to be under control. If it starts up again I will have to make a decision - surgery to cortorize the vessels or a hystorectomy....
What happens when I get my period being that the lining sheds am I going to bleed to death???
Has anyone else dealt with this?? I am kind of upset with the DR's office that they didnt do an ultrasound after the delivery to make sure everything was out being that it didnt come out on its own... Am I wrong in thinking this? All of this might have been avoided and it would not have had 8 weeks to grow deeper into my Uterine wall!!!! TIA
I am going to the DR tomorrow for a follow up and to ask all my questions. I live in Sayville and go to Oakdale OB
SAW THE DR TODAY AND SHE SEEMS TO THINK THAT EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE FINE BUT IF I DECIDE TO GET PREG THEN I WOULD HAVE TO SPEAK TO A HIGH RISK DR. I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE ANSWERS I GOT FROM HER... WHAT BAFFLES ME IS SHE SAID THAT IF SHE HAD TO DO IT OVER SHE WOULD NEVER HAVE DONE THE D & C- SHE WOULD HAVE LEFT IT TO DISSOLVE ON ITS OWN. HELLLLO SHE IS THE ONE WHO ORDERED THE DAMN THING!!!! SEEMED LIKE THERE WAS SOME *** COVERING GOING ON. WILL GO FOR A SECOND OPINION

I have never heard of this. I am sorry you had to go through all of this.
Did you get a second opinion. I would asap. I don't know where you live, but maybe we can all give you suggestions.

I agree. Never sit back and allow one doctor to say exactly what is going on whne things aren't 'normal'. I had a very hard time after delivery and kept on fighting for more opinions. Good luck and fight!

That's terrible!! My sister's placenta didn't want to come out either, so they surgically removed it after delivery...immediately after. And they checked that it was all gone because of the damage that can be done if it remains in the uterus! I would certainly get a second opinion. Soon!

I had what the doctors referred to as a "sticky placenta" (it sound like the same thing you had but I can't remember the medical term ). I had an ultrasound after delivery to make sure everything as out. I was told that if it wasn't, I would have needed a D & C. As far as getting your period, as far as it has been explained to me, it is VERY different. In fact, I went on to have another baby and it did not completely repeat itself. I did, however deliver 6 1/2 weeks early with DS2. My placenta did not stick (as much) with DS2 but my OB has advised me not to have any more babies for fear of putting me at too much risk.
I would def. recommend another opinion. I think your doctor was very negligent for putting you at so much risk. I am so sorry you had to go through all that and hope you are now feeling better
