Has anyone needed dental work during pregnancy?
I am scared out of my mind. I have to go to the dentist tomorrow because I'm pretty sure I either have a bad cavity or need a root canal. I am absolutely terrified of the dentist...silly I know.
Waiting to hear from my doc in the AM what exactly is okay for them to do/not do, but was wondering if anyone else has gone through something similar during pregnancy.
At least I have the level II to look forward to on Tuesday!!!

Re: Has anyone needed dental work during pregnancy?
i'm sure you'll be fine!! i feel like i've stayed in the dentists chair this pregnancy.. i've had cleanings, two cavities filled and a cap replaced.. i am FINALLY at the point where nothing hurts in my mouth.. at one point i even went in to have a tooth pulled.. but the oral surgeon said no, and then my dentist figured out he how he could put a cap on the tooth instead..
if they want to take xrays they should put two drapes on you.. and if you have any questions, ask them to stop and call you ob.. my dentist stopped my exam mid way through and asked for my ob's number.. called and got permission to give me novacaine..

Re: Has anyone needed dental work during pregnancy?
I am in the same boat. I have dental problems that I should have had taken care of YEARS ago--one of which is a root canal re-do (the last one was done shoddily ). I am terrified of dental procedures.
But, just recently, a HUGE part of my tooth broke away, and now I have a gaping hole in my mouth. I know I have to deal with it, because it will only get worse.
I WILL pick up the phone and make that call tomorrow. I hope you make it through ok tomorrow Just remember (as I'm trying to at the moment)--the anticipation is SOOOOO much worse than the actual!

I had a tooth pulled around 24 weeks. No biggie
Hang in there. Like a PP said, the anticipation is always much worse.

Re: Has anyone needed dental work during pregnancy?
I was born without two teeth and am having implants put in to replace them.
My OB told me to get the first part done before pregnancy because it would require X-Rays, antibiotics and serious pain medication. She said having the second part during PG (but out of the first trimester) was fine because it only requires novacain and tylenol.

Re: Has anyone needed dental work during pregnancy?
I have a toothache and went to the dentist last week. They did a cleaning and I have to wait until the end of my first tri-mester and have a note from my ob as to what if anything (for pain ) they can use. If she says no, looks like Im waiting until the end of Jan. Its my fault, I shoud of had this done months agoa nd stalled. I absolutely HATE the dentist and would rather get shot. They freak me out.

Re: Has anyone needed dental work during pregnancy?
Thanks girls! I talked to my OB and it's fine to get minimal xrays and can get novacane if needed. I absolutely hate the dentist and am so afraid. What a baby I am! This afternoon cannot be over quickly enough!
ETA: I've put this off forever too, and now I wish I hadn't!
