Has anyone rented a car with car seats in Orlando?

We are going next month and would prefer NOT to lug 2 car seats.

Thank you for posting this because I would like to know this too.

We are going in May and I would also prefer not to lug around a convertible car seat.

National rents car seats for around $10/seat per day.

Most places rent them, but they will not come installed, you will have to do it yourself- likely without directions. Given the expense and hassle, we have always chosen to bring ours.

We are renting from Alamo and they said the rental of the car seat would be $50 for the week which is well worth me not lugging our seat but I was just unsure of the quality of seats at rental places.

We took two car seats on our last trip and it was so inconvenient. The convenience is definitely worth the cost IMO.

If you are a AAA member you get the car seat free from Hertz.

We just came back from Orlando and Jetblue actually checked the seat for us and it wasnt bad at all since we didnt have to lug it to the gate

How about getting the car seat to the car rental area? Is the car rental area convenience to get to?

We have only flown once with both kids and it was a nightmare. We had to get on a shuttle to get to the car rental area in AZ. You couldn't necessarily take a cart everywhere you needed to go. DH literally had to walk 10 steps, go back and take both car seats, walk 10 steps, push luggage and repeat.

Honestly, years ago, I went to a rental place (I was away w/o DD) and happen to see the car seats and they were filthy! I just couldn't do it.

Any time we go away, we take our own. When we had to carry it, we buckled it up and carried it on our back like a backpack...not an inconvenience at all.

When we had just one child, it was easy. Now that we have 2 kids, it is logistically more difficult.

I'll have to talk to DH about it. He really hates the idea of flying just because of the car seat trauma we had on our last trip. We went to AZ and everything was pretty spaced out.

When we went to Orlando last year (we brought the infant carrier, that's why I don't know anything about their convertible car seats) the car rentals are within walking distance of the terminal. If I remember correctly, we got our bags and then walked over to the car rental. Once we secured everything with the reservation we walked outside and across the path to where all of the cars were for *I think* all of the rental companies.

You can rent the luggage cart at baggage and then just leave it where you pick up the car. There was a cart return out there too.

That is good news. Maybe we will just take the seats after all then.

I just saw a flier in BRU that says they rent carseats in Fl starting at $7 a day. It may be something to look into (although, now that I think about it, how would you drive there to get them without carseats Chat Icon )

Re: Has anyone rented a car with car seats in Orlando?

I personally wouldn't rent. You don't know how old the seat is, you don't get directions to install it properly, you don't know if it has been in an accident OR if it is the proper type of car seat (I have heard of stories where people needed a convertible and only had boosters left). It is a request not a guarantee that you will get the seat.

It is very easy you can either gate check them (which I probably wouldn't do with 2) but you can check them with your bags. In Orlando it is really easy you could pick up the seats with your luggage (they have luggage carts by baggage pick up). The great thing about Orlando is that there is an A and B terminal and I am pretty sure that the car places are in both terminals. You literally walk out of the terminal across the street to the parking garage and the cars are right there. The worst thing you might have to do is take an elevator. We have rented several times from National- we do the aisle select or when it was just DH and I the emerald aisle- with national you don't go to the counter - you go straight to the aisle of car you rented (i.e mini van row and pick any car in that row pack your things in the car and drive to the booth at the exit to check out).

I used the codes and tricks that mousesavers recommended and we have usually gotten the cheapest rate with national - over alamo/budget/hertz and I forget who else. I know Alamo and national are both on property I forget who else is though - mousesavers will tell you. You don't want to go off property because you will have to take a shuttle. Play around with the codes and you will find that sometimes at the 30 day mark your rates will often drop.
