Has anyone taken the trip to Carlos Bakery? (Cake Boss)

We are planning to take a trip there soon, and just wanted to get the down low. Chat Icon

I know the bakery opens at 7am. What time did you leave? How long was the line before it opened?

We will be going on a week day.

ETA - is there anything to do in Hoboken afterwards? Chat Icon

I have many, many times, but this was b4 the show Chat Icon
I lived not too far from the bakery when I lived in Hoboken.
I don't think it's as nuts there now. I know pple that still go in there. I always went whenever I had a party or holiday. I'd pick up their cookies or a cake to bring
Now it's funny the place is famous

BTW... sooo much to do in Hoboken! Loved living their...
walk on the pier over-looking NYC skyline
tons of great restaurants
roof-top restaurants on a nice day for a drink
cute shops
playgrounds for the kids
parks
depends on when you're going, but they have festivals

Have fun! I haven't been to Hoboken in months (right b4 I got pregnant with #2 to visit friends)
Now is the best time to go in the warm weather

I was just reading an article that said the wait was 6 hours one day Chat Icon That's why I asked. Chat Icon

Do you know what time they went? I plan to be there first thing in the morning.

Thanks Erica! We are going the first week of June with DD. Seems like a nice area to walk around and see the scenery!

I used to live there too and got stuff from there occasionally. DS and I went to visit a friend last year on a Saturday and I walked by for the first time - I was shocked that the line was down the block!

It's beautiful to walk on the parks along the river, they are building a new playground on the river as well.

They have a great toddler playground at Church Square Park - it's so nice for little ones and is just a few blocks from the bakery.

Like Erica said - they have a lot of great restaurants. I miss living there so much!

We passed by it a few months ago, the line was like 4 blocks long. Needless to say we kept driving.

No bakery is that good that I would wait even 30 minutes to get in.

If the waits are really that long, I might not go. Just thought it would be fun, but it might be more of a hassle.

I figured going really early we might not have to wait that long.

Go the Donut Plant in the city, it's driveable and they were hands down the best donuts ever!

Oh, when did you live there?
I miss it sooo much! Of course I was younger Chat Icon
So easy to make plans and meet a friend for drinks easily. Walk right to the restaurant!!

BTW - Hoboken is worth visiting anyway. Even if you don't get a cake there. There are so many great places to eat and other bakeries.
Are you going during the week? Maybe it's not so bad?

We went last year for my daughter's birthday, we had such a great time, it was part of her 16th b-day gift.
We went the friday before Memorial Day weekend, the lines were not that bad, maybe 45 min, the area was great. It was so much fun, we are doing it again this year! The drive was long because traffic in the city was bad! But it was a great time!

It depends when you go. A friend of mine goes a lot and he said to go after lunch..It is less crowded. Don't go during the weekend. Midweek is better... We are looking to go to. Probably next week...Chat Icon

Jerry & Kristen did last year. If you are friends with them on FB, see if they will tell you how it was. I think they did well with it.

Re: Has anyone taken the trip to Carlos Bakery? (Cake Boss)

I went in November. We waited about 2 1/2 hours to get in. It's actually super controlled, they only let in about 20 people at a time so the actual bakery isn't a madhouse.

We had a good time as far as the overall experience, and Hoboken is awesome, but the pastries (we bought brownies, cupcakes, coffeecake, cannolis) were just meh.

Oh, and it's super expensive.

I wouldn't do it again.

Exactly.

Re: Has anyone taken the trip to Carlos Bakery? (Cake Boss)

I used to live 2 blocks from the bakery until last year and sampled some of their stuff before it turned into a mob scene. If you're going for the bakery forget it. The stuff is average at best.

If you're going in hopes of meeting the Cake Boss himself, well chances are slim to none...

The town itself is cute, reminds me alot of Brooklyn Heights, so it's worth a stroll around town by the pier. The newly developed Pier C might even be open by the time you visit. Restaurants are also good to great. There are a good # of them. FM me if yo u want recommendations.

My man lives in Hoboken so I am there a lot and there is ALWAYS a line. I would guess around 2 hour wait. You are standing the entire time in the sun. Weekends the lines are longest. People often sell snacks/drinks to people waiting online. The area is beautiful and lots of nice places to eat and a nice brand new kiddie playground/park on the water.

Good Luck!

my cousins went there a few months ago. I believe they waited over 2 hours and they said the stuff was just okay, nothing to go crazy over.
