Has anyone tried this method to help DC STTN?

DD is waking ALL NIGHT LONG.

Has anyone tried going in to the baby's room BEFORE they wake up and rocking/nursing/binky etc (whatever works to get them back to sleep when they wake)..... I guess the idea is to keep them asleep so that eventually they get used to just staying asleep.

I have read about this idea in 2 books (I am desperate for help!!!)...just wondering if anyone has tried this at all? TIA!

How old is your DD?

I would not do that because you going in there might wake her up anyway, plus then she is relying on the rocking to stay asleep, which will probably backfire as she gets older.

How old is the baby? It kind of sounds like you're referring to dream feeding.

my daughter is 5 months old and whines in her sleep. As soon as I hear it i run to the crib and put the binky in to prevent her from waking herself up. A few times I didnt do it and i was up at 4am... not fun for me.
Sometimes if she takes a later nap I give her her last bottle while she is sleeping and she stays in for the night. she sleeps about 9 hrs through the night this way.

Thanks for your responses.

My DD is 4 1/2 months.

DH said the same thing as pp - that I woudl just be training her to rely on the binky to fall back to sleep (this is usually how i get her back to sleep the million times she wakes up at nigth).

But I was thinking - it can't be worse than it is right now, maybe it's worth a try. I would probably just sleep on the floor in the room with her so I could catch her right away as soon as she makes a peep, BEFORE she actually wakes up.

DS was a great sleeper from 3 weeks until 3.5/4 months and them OMG Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon up a million times a night for the paci. NOTHING worked. Finally, at 5 months, I gave in. I did full on CIO. It worked within three nights...

Not saying this is what you have to do, and I don't know if I could CIO before 5 months, but you're not alone. The 4 month sleep regression seems to be a common thing from what I have heard and seen Chat Icon

Yep, I'm not against CIO. We did it with DS at 9 months.

I just am not ready to do it yet. I feel like she is too young at 4 1/2 months... and she is swaddled and I cannot do that to her when she can't move. We tried not swaddling her, but she slept worse - if that's possible! LOL.

MY DS is the same age and I can tell you we just went through this.

He was sleeping great when we transitioned him into his crib at 3 months, he was being swaddled and once he hit 4 months he was waking up almost every hour or 2, crying, breaking out of the swaddle. We would run in and out all night, putting the binky back in, rubbing belly, etc.. and then our Ped said stop it now or it will never end.

We wanted to stop the swaddle before he started rolling over, so we said we were going to get rid of it and stop running in and out all night at the same time.

We did CIO and yes it was torture. First night was for an hour, second night was about 30 mins of it and now he is sleeping from 8-7. He still may wake himelf up a few times and if he cries it's only for a min or so and he goes right back to sleep, we do not go in there because we know he can sooth himself back on his own.

It was one of the hardest things and there were nights I was under the cover watching him on the monitor with the sound off because DH thought I was nuts - LOL. The first night I closed his door, our door and put the TV on because I could not handle the screamiing, but I knew that it was for the best.

I do the same thing- as soon as I hear DS stir I check the monitor to see if he lost his paci. If he did I sneak into his room and slip it back in. He goes right back to sleep.
If I don't do this he'll wake up and have to cry himself back to sleep which could take some time.
If his paci is in I don't go in because if I pick him up it's all over. He just needs to cry himself back to sleep. However if it's really bad and there is no sign of stopping than I of course will go in and pick him up and walk around the room till he falls back asleep. Although this very rarely happens because usually the paci trick works right away!

Your DC will very soon learn how to put the binky in her mouth on her own and go right back to sleep by herself. with my first DD i used to throw like 5 binkies in the crib so she always had one in arms reach.

Re: Has anyone tried this method to help DC STTN?

Not sure it was a method but yes, if we knew she was tossing and turning and about to wake up, we went in and tried to keep her in sleepy land.

But I won’t lie. That first year is tough (well it was for us) not every child STTN so nicely as you may read on here. I spent plenty nights asleep in her room on the rocker with her in my arms. The only way I could get a few hours in myself.

Our idea was if she’s not ‘fully awake’ she went back to sleep faster. Yes in that theory it did work but it didn’t prevent her from almost waking up to begin with, does that make sense?

DS has a hard time falling sleep, but once he is out: he's out through the night.

I do NOTHING to get him to sleep: no paci ever, no swaddle, no rock, no binky, ect. I know he wakes up at night and moves, but he gets himself back to sleep. I started putting him in the crib to sleep at 2 months at his bedtime & that means sleep.

It may be too late to try this technique... but unless he's sick, he's a 7PM-7AM sleeper.
