Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
Here's a TMI question, but I'm looking for opinions. My GYN doctor told me not to douche. EVER. He said it's bad for you, that it gets rid of "good" bacteria, etc. When I was much younger (I'm a lot older than some of you whippersnappers - ) you were considered not to have good hygiene UNLESS you occasionally douched. So my question is - do you or don't you? And why or why not?

I never did. My gyno years ago told me not to. He said it wasn't good for your body.

Re: Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
NEVER.
It is NOT good for you.
As Dr. Oz said "the vagina is a self cleaning oven"
Proper care and washing while in the shower with soap/water is fine, as well as using a baby wipe or those playtex wipes from time to time.
But as long as you do that and wipe correctly - from front to back and in between the folds - you should be fine.
ETA: I also, personally, take those acid.... (can't pronounce it) pills that are good for your overall health down there as well as take cranberry vitamins and eat yogurt from time to time - that's always good for the nether regions

I have heard that it is not natural to do this and that you wash away things that need to be there

Re: Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
I have done it a few times in my life.
When Rob and I had a brief idea to TTC a girl a few years ago someone told me that I needed to douche with vinegar and water. So we tried it - but then decided not to have another baby.
I have also done it when I want to feel extra special and clean in that area for an extra special night.
My gyno told me it wasn't the best idea but that if it REALLY made me feel better about myself it wasn't going to kill me either.
I have never had a yeast infection or any other lady problems - so it hasn't hurt me yet. I also haven't done it in over a year.

Re: Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
Was always told this is a down there "No, No".....as all of the other gals stated, it's a self cleaning oven...no need to disrupt the natural stuff that's supposed to happen down below!!

Re: Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
I did a couple of times years ago after being told that I was "supposed" to do it.
I had never done it before. Of course, those people did not know anything.
Then I researched on it and found out that it's really bad for you and can actually "harm" you by spreading problems deeper in your reproductive system.

Re: Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
OK, I am in the never done it, never will do it category...
But I guess my question is this... if it's so bad for you, and so many ladies say they would never do it, how are the douche companies still in business?
(but then again, cigarette companies are still in business so there must be people out there who douche!)

Re: Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
My mother told me years ago there is no need for it. It just gets rid of the good bacteria, and could cause you to get a yeast infection from douching.
So never have never will.

Re: Has your GYN doctor ever told you this?
Never have and never will, for the same reasons others have already said.
If I'm feeling gross... I just hop in the bathtub for an hour. I feel that a good "soaking" every now and again helps.
