So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
OKAY..
Yes i've put on 18 in 20 weeks. I know thats high. YET i am healthy, exercising, eating just fine. I went from strict weight watchers for 4 years to having a baby...my body just changed a lot in this time, BUT i think i look ok and feel great..
Im not getting upset, just venting. He told me he wants to see me gain 30 total, no more. I was 140 prepregnancy (5'7") and am now 158. That would mean 12 more pounds and thats it!!
He told me to up my exercise routine and watch the carbs.
Oh how i will my my morning bagel...lol...

I dont know, this doesnt sound 'right' to me. I hate when doctors impose weight regulations on women. Im 5'2" and gained about 45 lbs. My dr has no problem with it. Whats healthy for one woman isnt healthy for another.

Wow! That seems really strict! If you are exercising and eating right, I wouldn't worry about it.

WOW, your doctor seems really really strict.. I do not think you've gained a lot at ALL and for your height, you are still at a great weight!
Poo Poo to you Doctor I truly feel that unless you are having other health issues, they should really cut us preggos some slack. And besides, everyone just gains differently!!

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
My Dr has told me the same thing. Since I am already overweight he does not want me to gain to much weight. I am 25 weeks, 5' 7" and I have gained about 12 lbs and when I go back next week he wants to have lost about a 1- 2 lbs.

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
Its weird b/c I see 6 diff doctors throughout the pregnancy...and this particular one told me differently than the others...my first said 35 was just fine to gain, and this one was so weird about NO MORE than 30.
he told me bigger babies leads to c-sections, which he "hates doing". It was so odd.
My cousin gained 50 and had a vaginal birth, no problems.

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
Things are so different these days, it's hard to tell what is right and wrong.
When my mother was PG, her dr.'s philosophy was that she should go home in the same clothes she came in (after 9 months). She only gained 13 pounds....and we were twins!!! They didn't do sono's back then, so she didn't know she was having twins until we came out. Could you believe only gaining 13 pounds and having twins

12 pounds at 25 weeks and he wants you to lose???? I don't understand that, EVEN if you were overweight. That seems like such a small gain to me!!!

Im in the same boat as you. Im 12 weeks and I think I gained almost 15lbs and I'm 5'7 (not telling my weight though! LOL)
I feel like I've hardly been eating b/c of my heartburn and queasiness- I've been biking, 10 miles last weekend, but then again I was eating all sugar free stuff before the pregnancy and all that changed... I know I've been eating a lot of bagels and bread b/c Im hoping the bland stuff will help the heartburn so maybe your doc's right on that end- too many carbs.
The weight obsession is totally unfair to pregnant women!

The upsetting thing though, is that its not MY obsession, I mean i expect to gain weight while pregnant...it was more his "Alarm" over it. He said it upsets him that in this day and age, so many pregnant women unnecessarily bring c-sections upon themselves, the #1st cause being babies that are too big.
I think we're all ok and thats that. I plan to lose anything i gain, i'm not too worried!

Wow!!
Then I must be a chubba wubba!!
I was overweight when I became pregnant. At 32 1/2 weeks - I was up 29 lbs. (We will find out tonight - how much I went up at 34 1/2 weeks). My doctor is not concerned - I am more concerned then she is.

i'm in the opposite boat. i think i'm gaining too much and my dr. has not mentioned a thing!
since being diagnosed with GD i am on a strict diet as is, i wouldn't even want to know how much i would have gained if i wasn't on the diet !

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
It seems like every Dr. is different. I gained 21 lbs. so far, I'm 27 weeks. I wasn't overweight before being pg. One dr. said that I've gained a little more than I should so far and another said that I'm on track and the weight gain is healthy. Quite honestly all of the weight is in my belly and boobs although my face appears to be getting fuller lately. Whatever!

To me too but I don't think he really wants me to gain more than 20 lbs my whole pregrancy.

I'm up about 27 lbs so far at 35 weeks, and I started out at a size 0 (I don't gain very easily)! My doctor is very happy with my weight gain; he's says I'm right on target. I think your doctor is a little nutty

Same thing happened to me in the middle of my 2nd trimester. I too was on WW pre-pregnancy and lost over 20 lbs. You know what?? I lost weight or my weight gain slowed down a few weeks after the doctor told me that. He wanted to keep my weight on the low side b/c of my heart condition.
Drink more water! Honestly, you won't be as hungry and a lot of my weight gain was water weight. Believe it or not, the more water you drink, the less water you retain. Try not to get too upset, everyone's body reacts differently to being pregnant. At some point you have to say "it is what it is".
ETA: I am up 35 lbs. and only have 28 days more to go until May 17th. I am 36 weeks. The doctor told me that is a "normal" weigh gain considering I lost a bunch of weight before I got pregnant.

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
I don't get how so many doctors can be different. I was told I should be gaining 40 pounds since i am having twins and i only gained 9 pounds through 17 weeks. He didn't say anything to me, i guess because with a twin pregnancy you gain a lot at the end. Who knows. I try to eat healthy still, but i definetly eat a lot more then i use to.
Every woman's body is different and i think the doctors are being a little strict with you.

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
I was very overweight when I got pregnant and still gained 42 pounds and my midwives never brought up my weight. They just said do the best you can, eat healthy and try to stay somewhat active but sometimes your body is just going to do what its going to do no matter how hard you try.
I think you're doing great.

my doctor said the same thing. i was doing good up until last visit and all of a sudden i jumped! at 32 weeks i have gained 25 lbs ... she said it's too much and it will be hard to come off after the baby. but i honestly dont see WHERE i could have put 25 lbs!!! i'm all belly! i think as long as youre exercising and eating ok, youre fine, everyone is different.

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
From what I was told, your baby's size isn't based on how much weight you gain??? I wouldn't worry about it. With my son I also had to see different doctors and there was one of them that of course had to say something about my weight gain. It was a male. Now the other women doctors said it was fine. MEN!

Re: So...Doctor told me I'm gaining too much...
I was 130 prepregnancy and basically gained a pound a week until my last month I guess. I gained a total of 45lbs and I heard the same speach and I let it upset me but I didnt listen to her. I figured it wasnt her concern that I had to loose the weight afterwards it was mine and I know she was just looking out for me. I dont know how much I lost since the baby b/c we dont have a scale but I think I have 20 pounds to go. Dont worry and have that bagel.
