Have any of you moms not had your DC get shots...
right away? have you waited till a certain age? Can you? Im still new to all this.
I know they need them but with Autism rising and I know there is no proof or facts that this could be the cause.

Same here. I went according to my doctor's schedule with Michael's shots.
ETA - I did delay the MMR shot for a few months.

I also have given all shots according to my Doc although I am going to do a little research on MMR and possibly delay it a bit...haven't decided yet.

Re: Have any of you moms not had your DC get shots...
A very important article on MMR and autism has recently been published in the journal Pediatrics.
The study compares blood samples from children with autism and from control children. The researchers used exactly the same techniques that were used by workers who said that they had found evidence of persistent measles infection in children with autism. The researchers in the new study showed that initially they also got positive results. But when more sophisticated studies were done on the positive samples, they all turned out to be false positives. This study, along with other carefully undertaken studies that have failed to find measles viruses in autistic children, gives considerable confidence that MMR plays no part at all in causing autism.

My ped said to pass on the Hep vacine in the hospital because he likes to wait until his patients are one month old.

I delayed - mainly because my son was premature & had just gotten over RSV. I wanted him 100% healthy before getting any shot.
The only time I delayed any of their shots is if they were sick recently.

I delayed and split the MMR. The rest of the shots I went by my doctor's schedule. My peditrician doesn't give shots until 2 months old.

Re: Have any of you moms not had your DC get shots...
I'm delaying MMR. I know a lot of research has been done proving or disproving the autism link- but that is not the only reason to delay. A good book to read is " How to raise a healhty child in spite of your Dr" by Robert Medelson( a pedi). Some of the stuff is a little too anti-western medicine for me, some of it makes a lot of sense.

He did not get the Hep vaccine in the hospital, I did not want him to get that.
Otherwise, I just follow the schedule the pedi gave me. Steven gets two shots every month until one year old. Some offices are different, though.

Re: Have any of you moms not had your DC get shots...
We delayed quite a bit. Didn't start until 5 months. Most visits would only do one shot at a time which meant extra trips but that was fine by me. I had different reasons. One is that I feel the CDC schedule is not scientific and if you ask a lot of doctors they will agree. It's to make sure babies get vaccinated and most parents adhere to well baby visits at the young age, not older ages. I know I will always be on top of well baby checks so I made my own schedule. Honestly she really isn't at risk for these diseases that why I LOL when doctors say wait to take your baby out until the get their shots. Realistically pertussis is maybe the only one I would worry about. Shots don't prevents colds and such. So the no risk factor was also the reason we haven't given her any Hep B vaccines yet. Anyway DD is basically caught up now except for the Hep B. We will not do MMR or Chicken Pox until after she is 2 and will probably start Hep B at some point then as well. Hep A is new and I opted for her to get it because we will be traveling to Mexico. So far DD has had no reactions to any shots which I am grateful for. Oh and she also has not ever had a flu shot. I am not able to find preservative free so I will not give it to her yet.

Re: Have any of you moms not had your DC get shots...
we did not delay and she got her first Hep B shot in the hospital, no need to delay. There is NO scientific proof to link the vaccines to autism, even the MMR- it was the mercury to believe causing autism and the vaccines no longer have mercury in them. on the flip side to delaying or not getting vaccines according to the CDC there are diseases such as Scarlet Fever coming back and it was said that many old diseases will come back due to parents delaying or not having their children vaccinated which puts children at risk. but I thought it is mandatory for your DC to be fully vaccinated to enter school?

I believe this as well, the one time we did delay a shot DS was under the weather. My doc said and I quote "its ok, don't worry, I know you'll be back some do not"
I think they really worry about parents who will not come for well baby visits and never give shots.
Aidan is up to date now, but has never had a flu shot.

Re: Have any of you moms not had your DC get shots...
i delayed a bit, got no combination shots, (gave them all separately) but he's almost on track now(hasn't had MMR and won't until after 2)(and even then it will be given separately) i know there is no proven link but i aire on the safe side with 2 boys already on the spectrum... can anyone blame me??

Me too! I did decline the Rotovirus vaccine and the Hep A vaccine. My Dr. fully supported this.

Re: Have any of you moms not had your DC get shots...
We didn't delay any of the shots. I did quite a bit of research in making our decision, which I feel comfortable with. For me, the risk of getting a serious contagious disease was greater than the small, disputed risk of picking up anything from the shots.
Also, take into consideration that if you want to put your baby in daycare, they mandate that they have certain shots before going to school.
In fact, that reminds me - about 3 weeks ago a mother of one of the babies' in my daughter's class, passed away from a contagious disease. I FLIPPED out, and immediately called my pediatrician, who reassured me that my daughter would be ok because she had received the vaccination for that particular disease earlier in the year. So, there really are practical reasons for many of these immunizations.
