Re: Have some money left on gift cards to BRU and want to use them, here are our options....

Just wondering what you guys think are the most important things to get on this list that we didn't get at the showers.

-Changing Pad Covers (how many?) -You need at least two or possibly three.
-Sound Sleeper Soothing Audio Machine
I have a white noise machine and I think it was a great thing to have. It really comforts your baby.
-Car Seat protection for car (worth it??)
I have one, but I don't think it was really nesseccary, my DH on the other hand thinks it is.
-Bumbo seat (& play tray?)I didn't register for one, but received it anyway at my shower. I'm just starting to use it. I think it is okay. It will come in handy when I start to feed him cereal, but I don't think it is that important.
-Sleep positioner Hardly used it, plus it is not recommended due to SIDS.
-A 2nd diaper bag- I got two diaper bags. One for me and one for DH. I have to tell you that we have yet to use the second bag. It depends on how much your DH plans on taking the baby with out you. It seems with us we are always together with baby, or I'm by myself when going out.
-Tub side Seat & Storage
-Extra Sheets (only got one - how many more?) You definitely need more sheets. They have accidents quite often. I have 4 sheets for my crib and 4 sheets for my bassinet.
-Diapers (can we get them somewhere else for cheaper like costco? Only got one big box of size 2) I buy my diapers at B.J.s. Costco only sells there own brand and Luvs. I don't like either of these brands. B.J.s has Pampers and Huggies. You need Newborn diapers and size one. DS was 7lbs 11oz when born and was in Newborn for about 4 weeks. You can buy a big box of size one. THey are in this size for a long time. I did a diaper test and I think the best are Pampers Swaddlers and Huggies snug and dry.
-Wipes- I buy Costco unscented wipes and I think they are great.
-Wicker Baskets for closet (got 2 need 2-3 more)Maybe one more, but not that important.
-Books- I love Books, but you won't need that many in the beginning. Maybe get about 4 for now.
-Baby Jogger City Mini accessories: Not sure!
-parent console-This is nice to have to put your cell phone, drink, etc...
-cooler bag- I like my cooler bag. I don't use it all the time, but is nice to have for when I need it.
-child tray- You don't need this for quite a while.

Hope this helps!!

I had 2 changing pad covers but would have been better off with 3 or 4 lol. I feel like they were constantly in the wash which wasnt the easiest thing to keep up with the first couple months! Chat Icon

Re: Have some money left on gift cards to BRU and want to use them, here are our options....

-Changing Pad Covers (how many?)
I have 2 & will get 1 more just bc accidents do happen

-Sound Sleeper Soothing Audio Machine

-Car Seat protection for car (worth it??)
I don't think it is really that important. I had registered for it for DH's car(he has leather) & when we didn't get it, he told me he will use a towel bc it was not worth the $30

-Bumbo seat (& play tray?)
I got a bumbo but not the play tray. It is not necessary until your DD can sit up somewhat, so I would not rush out to buy it now

-Sleep positioner
Didn't register for one as everyone told me to wait until the baby is born & see if they require it.

-A 2nd diaper bag\
I have one but will not be using it until I get tired of my "main" one. I don't think it is necessary though

-Tub side Seat & Storage
I registered for both & didn't get them. I contemplated getting them but still have not. This is another one of those items that won't be needed until your DD can sit in the tub & that will be many months from now.

-Extra Sheets (only got one - how many more?)
DEFINATELY need more then 1 sheet. I have 2 myself & will be purchasing at least 2 more this weekend. Like others have said, you need to have a change in case of multiple accidents in one night. I think this is the MOST important for now.

-Diapers (can we get them somewhere else for cheaper like costco? Only got one big box of size 2)
I have a bunch of newborn & size 1 which I think are really important but you can definately get your diapers cheaper in places like BJ's, Costco, Walmart or Target. I would not pay the prices in BRU.

-Wipes
Another item you need but you can definately get cheaper in other stores like above

-Wicker Baskets for closet (got 2 need 2-3 more)
This is something i would have 2-3 more of. I noticed that when we got a lot of toys, it was easier to place them in the wicker storage baskets then just having them laying around. This way you can organize plus you can use the baskets for other items in your closet system to organize.

-Books
I would not spend the money in BRU on these. Target has books SOOO much cheaper

-Baby Jogger City Mini accessories:
Depends on the accessories you are talking about. I would only get things that you truly need at the moment & since you might not use the stroller immediately, I would buy necessity items with the $$ you have.

-parent console
Don't think it is necessary

-cooler bag
Since you live in FL, I think I would invest in one of these. You want to be able to store DD's formual or BM when you are out & about.

-child tray
Not necessary until DD starts to sit up

In a nutshell, i think I would get the extra sheets, changing pad covers & the wicker baskets (in that order). Those are the most necessary that you need for when the baby comes home & that you will no get cheaper elsewhere.

Of the items on your list:

Changing Pad Covers: At least 2. Whenever DS had an explosive diaper, it was convenient to have a back-up changing pad cover. I didn't end up needing more than 2 because I always kept a full sized lap pad on top of the changing pad. It was easier for me to toss the lap pad into the wash and quickly put a new lap pad on top.

Car Seat protection for car: We have one and never used it.

2nd diaper bag: It's good to have a full sized bag for long trips and a small one for short trips.

Extra Sheets: We have about 6 sheets. Some sheets went to daycare and some are kept at home. You'll be surprised how many sheets you can go through between spit-ups and explosive diapers!

Diapers: We waited until we brought DS home from the hospital to get diapers because we didn't know which size would have fit him better until they weighed him (NB or size 1). DH made a run out to BJ's the day DS got discharged.

Wipes: You can never have too many wipes! DH bought them the same time he made the run to get the diapers.

Books: You can never have too many books!

Cooler bag: Very useful!

In all honesty, I would hold on to the gift cards because you're going to be making lots of trips out to BRU to pick items up here and there. Often times I would find items I needed cheaper online or at other stores so I was never in any rush to spend my BRU gift cards. Eventually, I spent most of my gift cards on items that I forgot to add to my registry that I needed in a hurry!
