There is a way you can opt out of credit card offers. I have done it. It's so much better (and safer, identity theft wise) to not keep getting offers of credit. You can do this through the credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, Transunion). I never get offers anymore, thankfully.

I actually did the optout last week. I'm hoping it makes a difference, especially after reviewing the frequency at which these companies check out my credit report.
It definitely will. Give it a couple of months and you will see the difference. I also made sure to opt out for DH and to include any other names offers may come under (maiden, married, etc).

I have not tried but I still get offers in the mail. I even get offers for personal loans.

Re: Have you been denied or have had trouble getting new credit?
Our HELOC was cancelled a few months ago because housing values have dropped. We had nothing on it, no plans to use it anytime soon, so it wasn't a big deal. We took it out since our co-op closing was later than our house closing and we didn't want a jumbo mortgage (which we would have needed without the co-op sale money). So we took out the HELOC and paid it off not long afterwards. But it was still cancelled.
