Re: have you ever made a big mistake at work?
Thank you all for your great advice. I just wrote my boss an email explaining the situation being that she isnt in the office but is checking her emails and I included a possible asolution. My job is so detail oriented I deal with hundreds excel spreadsheets at once so one stroke of the wrong key can kill me. Its hard because Im still working on being more detail oriented its sooo not my strong point.

I hope it all works out. I know it's nerve wracking, but the only thing to do now is wait and see how she reacts.

Re: have you ever made a big mistake at work?
I agree with the other posters. I would definitely be proactive and tell my boss about before s/he found out.
Everyone makes mistakes. You didn't do it on purpose and I'm sure you're worth more than what they may potentially lose.
Try not to beat yourself up too much, sh!t happens! I'm sure people have done worse there!

Here's a chuckle for you's:
I gave one of my customers bad news about their shipment via e-mail and she came back with "Bomber" (I'm guessing she was going for "bummer".... I found this so amusing that I forwarded the e-mail to one of my friends saying "Look what this ******* wrote when I gave her some bad news, lmao, I feel like replying and asking her "Bomber?!?!?! WHERE?!?!?" lol Well I hit reply instead of forward, and the news got back to my boss.....oh boy was I in trouble! I've only been on the job less than a month, and needless to say I got fired. email can be so dangerous!

Re: have you ever made a big mistake at work?
Definately tell your boss before he finds out.
I made a HUGE error a few years back - I was incharge of a Crisis management computer call list and a call went out to over 20,000 of our employees between the hours of 10 pm and midnight. Needless to say I had major apologies to make and had to listen to complaints from employees for weeks on end. It turned out to be a computer glitch and not all my fault but i was still in charge of it. But since I told my boss immediately he had my back and after a very long repremand he stood by me and helped me field all the issues.
Good luck.

Re: have you ever made a big mistake at work?
Yes I have....and let me start by saying I work as a Paramedic so we're not talking about money but a person's life. What happened is more of a fm thing, but to put it simply. I made many small mistakes that made a VERY big mistake. My patient lived and is living a long life with no complications. People make mistakes and we are all human....what is important is what you do know. Find out why you made the mistake and how, in the future if you're ever in the same spot, you can you alter the response. I'm sorry you're going through this, but please fm if you need to talk!

everyone makes mistakes.
there is nothing wrong with you if you do.
go in to damage control mode. be upfront with your boss. tell him what happened, and what if anything can be done to fix it.
be proactive. dont' wait for him to berate your for it or worse.
and no matter what remember, mistakes are something we ALL make. don't kill yourself over it.
I couldn't agree with this more. When I was first a legal sec'y, I was supposed to fax something to co-counsel, and I accidentally faxed it to OPPOSING counsel. HUGE MISTAKE!! I realized it right away, told my boss I f$cked up (exact words), and he took care of it. It could have gotten me fired, but by being upfront, I really headed it off at the pass. Good luck!
