having your shower in your own home
are you having your shower at your house, or would you feel comfortable having it at your house?
a relative said that 'if' i were to have a baby shower ( ) how would i feel about having it at my home. she said it would be someone else throwing it, and it might be nice to just have all the gifts already there and not have to try to move them all.
i already know that i am not comfortable at all with the idea of someone getting me out of my home and then i show up and 'surprise!' tons of people unexpectedly here! i guess i am a little more open to the idea of knowing about the shower and being able to have my house just how i like it before guests come.... but i don't know... it kind of feels like i am throwing myself a shower then... not that i mind helping with things, it just feels kind of wrong, like i am throwing it for myself
what do you think about it all??

Re: having your shower in your own home
We're having mine at our home. I picked the date along with my aunts months ago, actually. We had to coordinate 3 aunts and 2 cousins from FL and my mom coming from NY (I'm in NC now) so it was really important that we plan ahead. Plus since we just bought a house, it didn't make sense not to have the shower here. 2 friends and my SIL are sharing the planning, but I get to have input which makes me happy.
I already scheduled a hair appointment for that morning so I'll be out of the house while they set up. Mind you, this is in November... I like to plan ahead.
I think the home is a wonderful option - so much more casual and flexible and your guests can really see where their gifts will be used. I'm really excited!

Re: having your shower in your own home
My cousin had hers at her home and I think she was relieved about it because she had about 100 people there (it was in their big back yard). it depends on how big your shower is!

Re: having your shower in your own home
being that my house is so small, I wouldn't like it. My yard is a good size, but it'll be winter so that's out of the question. lol. If it was a good size to fit everybody tho then I probably wouldn't mind. My cousin had it at her house and it was convenient that way. It wasn't a surprise though, she was there when we arrived. I, personally, think that if it IS at your house, then you should be there. Kind of like a birthday party. I don't see how you could be "surprised" at your own house. Plus i agree about the whole wanting to clean up ahead of time deal.

Re: having your shower in your own home
my house is too small to host a shower so I wouldn't like it either.
But, if I had the space the only stipulation I would have is that I would not want it to be a surprise.

Re: having your shower in your own home
I had my shower at my house. My mom hosted it. We used my house because of location to my guests, and it was summer. We were going to have an outdoor party but pouring rain ruined that. I had 30 people and it was tight inside but it worked. Best part of a shower at home is the gifts don't have to be packed up.

totally agree with this Michelle!
have to admit it sounds sooo much easier to have it at home than to cart all the gifts home!

Re: having your shower in your own home
I would want to know the date but Ill know the date either way. . I would be fine with it if I didn't live in a 1BR apt! I don't think it will be like you are hosting it for yourself as someone else will be sending invites, hosting etc so I think it's all good. .
also some people do throw showers for themselves and I think that's okay too!
