HCG trigger and Clomid IUI.
Do you have to use a trigger shot when you use Clomid with an IUI? I read somewhere that you have to and my doctor never mentioned it. Now I am not at that point yet, I just finished my Clomid tonight.. But I don't recall hearing anything about the HCG shot being something that is always used.
What are the benifits of the shot. I ovulate normally and I don't know if that makes a difference? This is too much information. My brain is on overload!!

They don't always use the hCG shot. My first month on Clomid, I monitored myself using CBE digital (the one with the smiley face) and ovulated normally for my IUI. I had the shot on hand, just in case I needed it, which I didn't.
This month they switched me to Follistim (the Clomid didn't do enough) and I used the hCG. My RE said the Follistim can mess with my ovulation and they could better control the timing of the IUI if I used the hCG.

We didn't use a HCG trigger since I was Oing on my own & got my +OPK before the IUI. I think that depending on how your body responds to the Clomid, the HCG trigger might be the next step, that is if this IUI doesn't work

I did use the Ovidrel both times to ensure that I ovulated when I was ready for the IUI.
ETA: I ovulate on my own as well...it was just to ensure timing.

I ovulate on my own also and when I was on Clomid I used a trigger shot both times. HTH!
ETA: The trigger helps with the timing of the IUI

I am on my first month of Clomid and while I ovulate on my own, I am using a trigger shot.

Sometimes I did, sometimes I didn't. First few Clomid cycles I definitely didn't trigger, but then after that a few times I did.

I did two IUI's the first I ovulated on my own, the second they gave me a shot on a Friday so that i could schedule my b2b iui's on Sat and Sunday.

I always got a trigger - but was tested to see if I was surging first. If I had surged on my own I probably wouldn't have gotten a trigger.
