ETA - our local Facebook page is exploding with people making comments/posting pics of kids not social distancing properly. One of them was at an ice cream place and they were commenting how they were maskless while eating their ice cream...
I'd love to know if someone figures out how to eat with a mask on. Perhaps a trap door like on those one piece pajamas
There are masks with flaps so you can insert a straw
Perfect! I will just start liqufying my food going forward Restaurants can now open. Just make all the food liquid. Perfect!

I truly think there are some people who sit on their couches watching TV at night with a mask on.
OMG I just spit out my drink. That is hilarious.

Kids are EVERYWHERE in huge groups. Parks, school fields, street corners....playing sports, just hanging out....
They are outside. In fresh air. With sunshine. Vitamin D. From a physical and mental perspective, this is not necessarily a bad thing.
So many camps cancelled after the Governor made his comments the other day. I am not sure how that helps keep kids apart from each other this summer. It definitely doesn't help parents. And many camps will close permanently.
I loved that quote. "I wouldn't send my kids to camp, so I'm not going to ask anyone else to send their kids to camp." Dude, nobody asked what you would do, and you don't force anyone to go to camp- that is an optional activity. Let parents have the option. The kids in my neighborhood are out & about like it is May of last year. Kids gathered together in front yards playing on slip & slides and in sprinklers, riding bikes & scooters together, standing on top of each other in line at the Mr. Softee truck. Might as well send them to camp, where at least they would be trying to implement some safety measures.
Not everyone is doing this though. There may be those flaunting this behavior, but I know plenty of people who haven’t let their kids out in months (myself included).

Re: He may actually let us start opening!!!
Makes no sense all the rules for kids going back to school when people are having kids getting together. Someone in my neighborhood has had multiple bday parties for their kid with much more than 10 people both times. How can you tell the kids they need to social distance at school when they are hanging out after school with others?

For the camp thing - I think that comment he made was insensitive because some people need camp to work... How can you restart the economy without childcare options? Not everyone can afford a nanny!

I believe the point is that the State is trying to follow guidelines on what to do. (not saying I agree with them) There are some things they can control and some things they can't. If they go by "guidelines" they they protecting themselves from liability. If he allows camps or summer school to open before the guidelines say he should then you know that someone will sue if they get sick. Then the blame game will start. The State can not control what you do in your own homes so if people decide to gather, that is on them.

This. Cuomo is following the CDC guidelines. That’s where he is getting his numbers from. I will say that the CDC does say that numbers may need to be re-evaluated for metropolitan areas that have been hit harder.

Yup, this! I’m hoping my boss will continue to let me work from home throughout the summer being that the kids will most likely be home.

I believe the point is that the State is trying to follow guidelines on what to do. (not saying I agree with them) There are some things they can control and some things they can't. If they go by "guidelines" they they protecting themselves from liability. That's exactly why. Even my job is worried about liability when they reopen the offices. Because everyone like to sue for everything in this country. But what I don't understand when it comes to that is this- how can you prove beyond a doubt that you got the virus from school or work rahter than Target or a restaurant? You really can't. If I pick up the virus and I happen to be back at work, how can I sue them and say- well I got it at my job because they were negligent in enforcing precautions? Who is to say I didn't get it at the gas station the day before, at my local Starbucks, at the supermarket, that DH or my daughter didn't get it and have no symptoms and spread it to me- I mean it's insane. It's not like falling down unsafe stairs or slipping on a cracked sidewalk somewhere. It's a contagious virus you could have picked up anywhere. I know we are a very litigious society so maybe the government needs to step in here and pass some legislation that you cannot sue work places and schools over this. Because like I said- there is no way to prove where you may have picked it up. But the fear of these lawsuits is going to slow down re-openings- I can see it with my job already. The legal team is having anxiety attacks daily about how we can reopen the offices without opening up to liability. Same with schools. And I would gladly sign a waiver saying I will not sue should I or my child get this virus - in order for her to go back to school. Because in all honesty I would never sue over something like that. It's a risk I am choosing to take to reenter society. Just like a myriad of other risks I take daily. Do people sue the schools when their kid picks up flu? Flu has killed more children than this virus. The whole suing mentality is insane.

Re: He may actually let us start opening!!!
When I saw NJ lifting restrictions I was so happy! I finally felt a bit of hope.
Yesterday was DH's bday. We did a bday parade because why not and people ended up staying for drinks outside. Honestly it was awesome. There were 3 other kids besides ours and they were having such a blast in the yard. They needed it. We needed it. Everyone social distanced. I did allow people to use the bathroom and, when it started raining heavily, there were only 6 people here so we went inside. It was funny because everyone sat on opposite ends of the couches or had chairs far apart. All the windows were open and I sanitized everything after everyone left. It was good for us and I think we did a good job of staying safe. Also everyone except one person has been WFH or retired so I felt the risk was low.
I think that people were good about social distancing not only because they should be but they didn't want us to shut it down. Everyone was really in good spirits.

Re: He may actually let us start opening!!!
Liability is definitely a huge part of it.
My job shut down in March. I found out in April that a few people I worked with came down with the virus. Who knows where they got it? But they did not sue, nor would I sue if I had gotten it. You can never prove where you got it and even if you could, it's a virus. It's nobody's fault.
I am SO ready to go back to work. I don't want to work from home all summer. I am willing to take the risk of seeing other human beings because the risk is low as I know how to protect myself and I think that others do too.

He may actually let us start opening!!!
Cuomo signed an executive order last night allowing gatherings of 10 people state wide. It had been 5 people since March 22nd. Apparently there was a lawsuit filed against him, for only allowing groups of 10 for Religious services & Memorial Day celebrations. I have a feeling New Yorkers are not going to be blindly following his demands anymore without fighting back. God help the man if he doesn't allow NYC out of lockdown sometime this summer, or open schools in some form in September. I see a lot of revolt coming the longer this drags on.

Re: He may actually let us start opening!!!
This is an example of why camps are essential similar to education. This was posted by a camp owner in NJ. He doesn’t even know who is going to take care of his own kids. On top of that he clearly state that the CDC guidelines they are giving him are impossible to meet.

I see the same. I wonder if the Trump administration would warn Cuomo like they did with Cali. Article
