Healthy Food to Eat?
So since I recently got my BFP i am trying to eat as healthy as possible for me and the little one.
What are some snack or meals you eat which are good for you and the baby??
So far i have tried to stock up on some healthy snacks oranges, apples, String cheese, granola bars, fruit snacks,
For meals I bought chicken, ground chicken, chichken sausage and some fish.(chicken is the only meat i will eat) I also bought some fresh vegetables like spinach, bok choy, swiss chard.
For dinner I use to live off of lean cuisine and canned soup. However I will not eat any frozen meals anymore b.c of all the sodium and preservatives.
How about can soup is that Healthy?? Or our frozen vegetables safe to eat while pregnant?
What are some snack or meals you eat which are good for you and the baby??
Thank you girls!!!!

Re: Healthy Food to Eat?
I love hummus. It comes in so many different flavors, and it so yummy. I like to dip carrots in it, pretzels, whole wheat pita chips. Apples w/ reduced fat peanut butter. I also snack on berries, bananas. One of my favorite things to do is freeze those kids yogurts that come in the tubes. I like the organic strawberry by stonyfield. Canned soup can be ok in moderation. You have to be careful some have a very high sodium content or contain msg. If you look you can find low sodium, msg free soups. As for frozen vegtables they are healthy & safe. Just buy plain vegatables without any sauce or added ingredients. I buy the natures promise brand from stop & shop organic spinach, broccoli. They are good b/c you can keep them in the freezer & don't have to worry about them going bad. Then I just steam them.

Re: Healthy Food to Eat?
I have to be honest I did the uber healthy thing until 6wks pg when my hypemesis started, and then it was whatever I could keep down. Try not to be to hard on yourself with your food. Not that eating healthy is bad, but remember that you may have food aversions or your cravings/taste might change. The 1st trimester I lived on nectarines, coca-cola and tuna sandwiches. That was ALL I could keep down. 2nd trimester was KFC and Beef and rutabaga pasty's. This last trimester is a whole lota nothing. Baby will take what it needs from you so rest assured that a balanced diet will make the difference.
Some ideas: Veggies and dip Tuna Sandwiches Turkey Burgers with sweet potato fries Apples with Peanut Butter Lean Cuisine and canned soups are ok just look at the ingredients. I found that a tv dinner was a quick alternative with a side salad on days when I just couldn't open the fridge.

I was a big chicken eater too...but found in my first tri I couldn't even look at it. I had to find some other protein alternatives. As for healthy snacks I like:
Apples and peanut butter almonds and dried cranberries hummus with crackers or veggies pretzels granola bars (Kashi actually makes some pretty decent healthier ones) string cheese

Carrots with peanut butter Whole grain raisin bread (Ezekiel from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's) with peanut butter Hard boiled egg whites Kashi TLC granola bars aren't too bad for you in terms of sugar Harvest Mott's apple sauces - they're no sugar added and they have blueberry and peach varieties Lentil soup Make some grilled chicken or buy those Purdue shortcut chicken cuts, and mix them with some black beans and a little low fat cheese - it's almost like a taco Ground turkey with some low sodium ortega taco mix with lettuce and tomato and even some multigrain tortilla chips makes a great taco salad Turkey sausage

Re: Healthy Food to Eat?
Eating healthy is great and I am trying to be mindful but I still eat frozen and canned ESPECIALLY now that I am in my 3rd tri- the thought of cooking every night is just frightening. I can barely stand when I get home from work, lol.
As far as healthy snacks I've been buying trail mix and green apples (which help with the gross taste always in my mouth).
Cheese (my first love) makes me nauseous if I eat it alone...

Re: Healthy Food to Eat?
Just to let you know, I am vegetarian:
But, I have been trying to eat very healthy so some foods I try to eat are:
hard boil egg - white only stoneyfield organic yogurt low fat cottage cheese whole grain cereal--Kashi brand bananas clementines/oranges strawberries grapes apples pineapple whole grain bread with jam soy cheese rice cakes whole wheat pretzels with hummus tons of veggies(cooked and raw)--peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, spinach portabella mushrooms low mercury fish - (shrimp, sole, flounder, crab ect..) soups tons of beans--white beans, kidney, black, chick peas granola bars
For dinner---I will normally do a huge salad with a mix of veggies and beans or veggie burger on whole grain bread with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles or soup
Thats all I can think of right now.

Re: Healthy Food to Eat?
When got our BFP, my husband really got on my case about fruits and veggies (I NEVER ate them before- I was so bad). We bought the Magic Bullet Express (which is AWESOME btw, but you could do it with regular juicer too), and he started making me smoothies every day. He would throw anything and everything in there- bananas, apples, yogurt, milk, all kinds of berries, pears, carrots, anything green- and they were DELICIOUS! And so easy to make!!
