Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I know that for the average woman, the normal weight gain for the entire duration of your pregnancy is 25 to 35 pounds.
Has anyone found what is supposed to be normal based on what week or month you are in?
After all, how are you supposed to monitor yourself if you only have the total number of pounds you are supposed to gain at the END of your pregnancy.

I think that everyone's normal is different.
There is no right/wrong weight gain IMO.
I gained 50 pounds (10lb baby) - my doctor didn't say a word about it. Some doctors monitor the weight gain.
ETA: Pregnancy is the ONLY time in your life you can eat what you want - and enjoy it! You are growing another person so you need to eat enough for two people. Enjoy and try not to worry about the weight so much!!

I agree everyone is different and it would just be another thing to stress over. I am 25 weeks and below average as far as weight gain goes.. I have only gained 6 or 7 lbs so far.

my doctor told me to watch the weight gain today-- now, I know my weigh in was skewed because I weigh myself at home, and my scale jumped basically 5 lbs this morning after a holiday dinner last night AND I had about a liter of water while waiting to see him.
I also personally don't think that just because I am pregnant, I can eat whatever I want.
I still eat healthy, just maybe more than what I ate before- and maybe I allow myself an indulgence that I wouldn't before. So, I don't understand why I am still gaining weight like a champ, and even those 5 lbs of most likely water weight, can raise an eyebrow with my doctor.

I am not understanding something - you are concerned because it looks like you have no belly yet and your doctor is raising concerns about your weight gain??
You can choose to eat as healthy as you want - and good for you if you do keep up with healthy eating! I had tons of cravings throughout my pregnancy and to be honest - my weight gain hardly entered my mind.

Yes-- not really showing that much, yet, still gaining weight. Enough for my doc to say something to me-- I wonder what would have happened if I had my appt yesterday-- if he would have mentioned something at all.

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I'm 28 weeks and have gained 25 pounds and my dr. said something to me about it today. I am still in small maternity clothes and don't look as though I have gained weight anywhere but in the belly, don't overeat and have always been thin, so I am not stressing it too much.

With baby #1, I gained alot in my 1st and 2nd trimesters, and nothing in my third. But gained 35 lbs total.
My doctor never said a word- and one month I had gained 8 lbs between visits.

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I guess it all depends on the doctor, as will the advice you get from your childs pediatrician. All Dr's think something different and hopefully you will and have chosen the doctor whose views you can agree with most or at least a dr who can give you options. My Dr was very cool (in my opinion) and he was perfect for me. He is very laid back and says everything in moderation. I gained 50 lbs with DS, because I happily listened to all the people who told me to eat whatever I wanted (this time around - I hope to gain a lot less) my doctor didn't say anything to me about it until the month I gained 11 lbs!!!!! but in my defense it was month 8-9 and June to July so it was all water weight.
Now, I don't know you and I don't know how far along you are or how much weight you have gained and I hope you don't take offense to this but I do see a lot of your posts focusing on this topic and would think the stress you are putting on yourself over it is far worse than gaining a few extra lbs. Its ok, you are eating healthy, try not to focus on the number so much.....focus on how you feel and how your baby is developing and next time your dr says watch your weight gain, tell him/her to go eat a donut

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
It's really hard to do a week by week, or even a month by month. With my first, I gained 21 lbs in the 1st and 2nd trimester, and 8 lbs in the third, for a total of 29 lbs.
With this one, I gained 22 in the 1st and 2nd, and have gained 1lb so far in my 3rd.
No one knows you better than yourself. If you think the amount you are gaining is okay for you, than that's the answer for you

I had the opposite problem....showing early and a alot but gaining little weight...my doctor had no concerns...
please stop obsessing about your weight...just go with what is happening to your body...be thankful and happy and forget about your belly or the scale.

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I put on a total of 22 lbs so far. My Dr. flipped on me because I gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I am now only allowed to gain 1 lb a week!!! YEAH that's REALLY gonna happen!!!!!!!!! I'm only 5"2 though so I know if I keep going in this direction I will become an oompa loompa.... XOXOXO BOTB

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
This site has a chart that may give you a guideline...
http://www.marchofdimes.com/pnhec/28699_1914.asp
but as the others have posted, everyone is different and 25-35 is really just a guideline...With my DS I gained almost 40 and it all came off and then some...As long as you and baby are getting what you need, try not to get crazy looking at that scale

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I am assuming the results from your level II were fine, right? If so, ENJOY this pregnancy. Gaining weight is part of being pregnant. Even though you are still watching what you eat, you have a baby growing inside plus extra fluid. If you are going to continue the rest of the pregnancy wondering WHY and HOW you are gaining weight or what is the correct weight gain per week/month then you are missing out on a wonderful experience that not everyone is able to have. Stress is NOT good during pregnancy..so if the only stress you have right now is the weight gain..please stop. I saw your pics,,you look wonderful and I do see a baby belly.
ETA: I gained more with my son than I did with my daughter. Lost the weight rather quickly after delivery and that was without working out.

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
My doctor yelled at me when I gained 50 pounds with my first. Whatever...I lost it all in 3 months.
This one, they're telling me that 30 pounds at 35 weeks is a lot.
They're never happy.

This is what I use to gauge if I'm on target. So far I'm about 2 lbs. over but still expect to be 30-35 lbs. by the time I'm in labor.
Doctor has not said anything to me since I'm pretty skinny to start...

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I lost 4 lbs and didn't gain anything until around 20 weeks. I was showing A LOT even though I wasn't gaining any weight..I guess just because I'm having twins. Now at 31 weeks i've gained 25lbs.

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I'm 31 weeks and 4 days and I'm up 22 lbs so far. The doctor hasn't said a peep about my weight gain so I'm assuming he is happy with it. All I've heard is that my baby is on the bigger side but that is certainly not going to make me diet, I'm just more conscious of what I eat because I have GD. The weight will come off once the baby is here, that's how I look at it.
There's no need to stress by comparing yourself to the average. I looked at your pics and you look great, and I can see your baby bump! I don't know what your doctor is talking about

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I guess he felt 5 lb btwn appts was high for you? I would've asked him what he/you should expect.
I find whenever I go, I have to ask, b/c I keep forgetting my last weight. I thought it would be more of a topic at each appt, and when I tried to address weight gain in the beginning, they were very vague, and I think afraid I was going to put myself on a diet. I was like, umm, I'm a bit plump, and just want to be sure I don't go to h#ll with myself!
Agreed, that PG doesn't give "us" the right to eat whatever we please, and I also don't believe in the notion that "we're eating for two".

Thanks for this. According to this though, I should have gained 20=24 lbs by now, yet I only gained about 10 (due to no appetite). My dr's view is in favor of less than more. On my first visit when I told him I had some ankle problems, he expressed concern over not being able to exercise and weight gain. So I know he would be commenting if I gained too much, it was just by chance I did not.
I actually just read an article in a woman's magazine in the dr's office the other day that they have changed the new guidelines for weight gain during pg and they are far from what they used to be (they are a lot less now).
Basically, it said for my BMI (which is normal) I should only gain about 5-20 max during the pg.

Re: Healthy weight gain by week and/or month?
I am 27 weeks and I have gained 20 lbs. Everyone says though that it's "all baby" and I don't look like I gained weight. My doctor hasn't said anything to me at all and the nurses say it should come off right away. I hate how society has caused us to obsess about our weight, preggers or not.
