Re: Heath Ledger's Family Speaks About Tragedy
Ledger's Death Doesn't Look Like Suicide
Multiple sources in the NYPD tell TMZ, although it's too early to know, it's looking like Heath Ledger's death was accidental and not suicide.
There have been numerous reports suggesting that Ledger took his own life by ingesting a boatload of pills. Contrary to initial reports, the pills that were "scattered" around Ledger's apartment were actually in containers. We're told the containers were not littering the apartment. Rather, some were in the medicine cabinet and some in other rooms. As we reported, one container was on Ledger's nightstand. Cops found sleeping pills and an anti-anxiety drug in the bedroom.
A rep for the family tells TMZ that detectives have been in touch with Ledger's next of kin and the cops told them so far there is no evidence suggesting suicide. Of course, until the toxicology reports come in, no one knows for sure.
A well-connected source in the NYPD told us this morning the "operating theory" right now within the department is that it was an accidental death, not suicide.
It's unclear if Ledger's health was a factor. As we first reported, he had pneumonia at the time of his death.

Re: Heath Ledger's Family Speaks About Tragedy
I heard this morning that they he had had trouble sleeping since wrapping up the Dark Knight movie and had been prescribed some sleeping pills (that apparently never really worked) and he had come down with pneumonia. They are saying that he may have mixed some cold/flu medicine with the sleeping pills and accidently overdosed.
This is just such a tragedy. I don't know him but I really cannot believe that he would take his life purposely.

Naomi Watts in tears at Sundance, cancels press appearances
Perhaps avoiding the obvious questions awaiting her, Naomi Watts has canceled all her press appearances for Wednesday at the Sundance Film Festival, where her dark comedy Funny Games is slated to premiere at midnight.
She and Ledger met on the set of Ned Kelly in 2002 and dated for nearly two years. The late actor accompanied her to the Academy Awards in 2004, when she was up for Best Actress for 21 Grams.

Re: Heath Ledger's Family Speaks About Tragedy
I am still in shock and so saddened by this. This was from the NY Times article that someone posted above... It is really making me believe (hope) that this was an accident.
“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.

Heath Ledger's Initial Autopsy Inconclusive
Heath Ledger's autopsy results are inclusive, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday, a day after the actor, 28, was found dead with sleeping pills nearby.
More tests are needed.
It will take about 10 days to complete the investigation, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner, according to the Associated Press.
Police had initially said Ledger's death was caused by a possible drug overdose and appeared to be accidental.
Fans have built a makeshift memorial outside the lower Manhattan apartment where Ledger's body was found.

Helena Christensen: I Was on the Way to See Heath Ledger When I Heard He Died
Model Helena Christensen, who has been linked romantically to Heath Ledger, tells Women's Wear Daily she was on the way to see the actor Tuesday when she heard the sad news.
"I was on my way over to pay him a visit when I found out. I had just left him a message and heard his voice on the machine..." she says.
"He was such a special and genuine person, so extraordinarily talented because he was so raw and honest with his feelings. He was so full of life, so electric ... This is immensely sad.
She tells the paper he was "a sweet, smart and talented young man and had many friends. My heart goes out to his family. I am just beyond sad at this point, and shocked...."

This is so sad and shocking. I used have the biggest crush on him in 10 Things I hate About you and A Knight's Tale...
That photo is just disgusting, I can't believe that paparazzi would stoop THAT low. That shows absolutely NO respect.

I read that too, from previews and pictures it really looks like he put his heart and soul into that character, and I could only imagine that would take so much out of a person....made me think that he was just desperate to get some sleep

I'm not surprised. It's done everyday on the news with everyday people. Not saying it's right, but this isn't anything new. And since he's a celebrity, there's more of an interest.
He was one of my favorite actors. LOVED him in The Partiot. Sounds like he was loved and respected by everyone. I'm sure he will be missed deeply.

You are totally right! I would be LIVID if I saw my loved one being brought out on tv. There has to be a line somewhere. Also the fact that his family had to find out from the media makes my blood boil.

these details are so disturbing.
his family, i don't know - their response surprises me a little... "peaceful sleep"?? how about the kid was obviously really messed up with drugs and/or depression issues?? there's nothing peaceful about that. i don't know - that just kind of shocked me a little and made me
do you honestly believe that a response like that from the family would have been more appropriate???? i think not. imo, the family is handling/responding to this tragedy as best they can..with heavy hearts, and gentle words..
i'm just saying the wording seemed strange to me - perhaps they are still in shock? it's just sad b/c this person was mixed up, obviously, and it is sad that he didn't get the help he needed from someone. i've known a lot of people in my life who have struggled with addiction and/or depression - it's just sad when one loses that battle.

It would be kinder to his loved ones to leave him at peace and allow them to grieve their loss the way they see fit.
I think it's obnoxious to think otherwise.

I agree, that's quite an assumption that he was depressed and wanted to end his life. By the sounds of what has been coming out, this was an accidental death.

Report: Drugs Found in Heath Ledger's Apartment
New evidence has surfaced in the investigation into the sudden and shocking death of Oscar-nominated actor Heath Ledger, who was found dead inside his SoHo apartment on Tuesday afternoon.
Sources close to the investigation tell CBS 2's Investigative Reporter Scott Weinberger that along with the prescription drugs that were found in the apartment, police also recovered a rolled up $20 bill with narcotic residue on it. Sources add they also found several drug packets containing an unknown substance. CBS 2 has learned these items were all listed on the official police report from the scene.
Those substances were officially vouchered, meaning they have been taken by police, listed in their initial reports, and sent to a lab for testing.
To be clear, it's still unknown whether these items belonged to Ledger or whether he even actually ingested them.

Michelle and Matilda -- Going Home
Michelle Williams and daughter Matilda Rose began their sad journey back from Stockholm this morning, following the death of Heath Ledger.
We're told that Michelle and Matilda went to nearby Gothenburg to board a flight to New York. Michelle's mother and sister are currently in Brooklyn and were joined there by Matilda's godmother, "Dawson's Creek" actress Busy Philipps.

I agree with you erod
Me too...they are grieving. He was their son they aren't going to tarnish his memory. Especially when nothing has been proven.

i'm not saying he did it on purpose - not at all. i'm saying that it is apparent that he had some sort of substance probs and that is so very sad - again, i've known so many people who have had these probs and i've seen so many lose that battle - then, i've also seen others rise above - it's so upsetting when one loses the battle - is all i'm saying. it appears his parents really weren't aware of them - or if they were, they didn't realize they were this severe. it's tragic. i'm not assuming anything - they are allowed to grieve however they like - everyone grieves differently - i just found it a bit odd, their wording, is all - it's really not more than that - some are trying to make what i said more than what it is - but it really is just that: sad and what they said, in MY opinion, was a little strange - but to each their own, i feel the same amount of sadness for them no matter what they said.

Re: Heath Ledger's Family Speaks About Tragedy
how is having sleeping pills and anti anxiety pills apparent he had a substance problem? Heck, I'd bet a good majority of homes in the US and elsewhere have those exact same things in their home. I know I do.

Re: Heath Ledger's Family Speaks About Tragedy
I'm sorry but I think it's really presumptous and foolish to "assume" anything about his life, problems, etc. There is no where in any of the articles that were posted in this thread that allude to him being messed up, a substance abuser, clinically depressed, etc. Give his memory a break as well as his parents and their statement.

well, i'm just thinking that if he took enough of those to kill him then it might be more than the "recommended dosage" but we'll have to wait to see what comes out after the autopsy - either way, if he is taking anxiety pills then he was struggling - with life and things in general - and that's just sad - this is all i'm trying to say - IDK why people are making a bigger deal of it than it is - it is NOT, by ANY means, knocking him - my god, so many people have probs in their life - I feel BAD for him - it is not putting him down - AT ALL. trust me - VERY close people to me have similar probs - TRUST ME - i feel really bad for him if that is the case... not the other way around.
and i'm not saying anything is definite either - i'm saying "obviously" or "apparently" - i could be way off and i hope i am.
