Help 3 months and rolling from back to belly

We were so excited to see DS roll over for the first time last week. He rolled from his back onto his belly. We recently took away the sleep positioner because he moves so much and he would end up just kicking it to the other side of the crib.

Now that he's rolling himself over we are scared because I find him with his face buried in the mattress. He doesn't turn it to one side and I'm nervous he's going to suffocate himself. Has anyone else had this issue and if so did you do something so they couldn't roll? I hate to restrict him that way but we can't sleep at night knowing the sids risk of sleeping on his belly.

He cannot roll from his belly to back yet.

My DD is only 2 months old so I don't know the answer to this. But I was just wondering about your exact question last night because she looks like she's getting closer and closer to rolling over.

I'm interested in hearing everyones answers...

I just posted about this about a month ago! I was so nervous also. As a PP said, once they are rolling, there is nothing that you can do really.

I was petrified, but I noticed that she would turn her head to the side after being facedown. Of course, when I go into her room, if she is like that I will turn her.

We're only at 5 weeks so I cannot help with personal experience... but maybe you can try more tummy time at play to help strengthen his neck muscles. Try to shake rattles, talk to him or place toys to encourage him to turn his head. Do kind of like practice drills to teach him how to fix himself.

We've been doing tummy time since his cord stub fell off and just last week, he rolled from his tummy to his back a few times in a row. Not yet near rolling from back to tummy but he scoots all over the crib. We've not used a sleep positioner and he's been fine.

Thanks everyone for the responses. We do quite a bit of tummy time and he has a very strong neck(the dr even commented on it at the last appointment), but he doesn't turn his head to one side or the other when he puts his head down and he's on his tummy. I guess it's just something I'm going to have to keep an eye on and hope he gets better at.

if it makes you feel better, get the angelcare monitor. it's a pad with a sensor that alarms if the baby doesn't move for 20 seconds.

if he is constantly rolling all over the crib it might not work (he would roll off the pad) but if he only rolls once and goes back to sleep it could work for you.

My 3 month old just started rolling, and like you we are nervous about her rolling onto her belly while sleeping. We've been using the First Years Air Flow Sleep Positioner by Learning Curve during her naps and not only does it keep her from rolling onto her belly, she seems to like the snug feeling it gives her. It's different from the other positioners. Check it out on the BRU site - it got very good reviews.
