Help!!!!! Am I having an allergic reaction?
For the past week or so, my eyelids and underneath my eyes are soooo dry. I have been putting this ointment-like moisterizer on it that is supposed to be like a heavy duty moisterizer.
Its not helping at all. I put the moisterizer on in the morning and at night- and its not making it any better. Its both eyes- and it literally looks like I have hot pink eye shadow on. I am beginning to think its not just dry skin- maybe an allergic reaction or something. I haven't switched eye shadows, make up, moisterizers, anything- and I haven't even put eye make up on in the week that its been like this.
Of course these things always happen to me on the weekends- when the doctor's office is closed! .
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? Its beginning to become unbearable!
ETA: So yes, I was having an allergic reaction! I went to the MediCenter in Huntington today and got some drops- and was told to take claritin and was also prescribed some drops! The bad news is its going to take an entire week to go away- so I'll just look like a@@ for a week, but its ok.

I would go to a walk in medical center - I don't like to mess with OTC stuff on my eyes. They should have evening & weekend hours.

I agree - when it comes to your eyes you can never be too careful.
What concerns me also is the possibility that you're having an allergic reaction.
There is STAT health in Smithtown that I know of.

I'd probably go to a walk-in medical center, too.
It's certainly possible that the extremely cold / dry weather we've been having is just wreaking havoc on your skin... but it's also possible you're having an allergic reaction, which could be more serious. Either way, I am sure there is something they can prescribe for you that will offer some relief.
Feel better!

Do you wear contact lenses? I had something similar plus it always felt like I had something in my eyes and when I went to the eye doctor he said I have an allergy to contact lenses. You should go to the eye doctor and make sure its not an infection rather than an allergy.

Re: Help!!!!! Am I having an allergic reaction?
i had this 2 winters ago. It's a form of excema - at least mine was, anyway. I used every moisturizer under the sun before going to a dermatologist and getting a steroid cream. Steroids around the eyes are never a good idea, but it's the only thing that helped me. Mine lasted 2 whole months before completely clearing.
The "pink" was the start of it for me - it then progressed to burgundy and peely.

Yeah, its peely too.
I just spoke with a nurse from the 24 hour hotline with my health insurance- and she said to take benadryl tonight. Hopefully that'll work- otherwise, I'm going to a dermatologist on Monday.
Thanks for everyone's responses!

Re: Help!!!!! Am I having an allergic reaction?
I'm sure its not it but just for an FYI only becasue it took me so long to get rid of it.
I had something like that a few years back and tried everything to get rid of i. went to a few dermatologists until I finally found one that put me on tetracyclline for 3 months and it was gone for good.
