help ... CAT PEE! with update!
so, we went away this past week and had the neighbor look after our cat. well, we decided to stay an extra day, and the cat was locked in the house (even after we stated to leave her outside all the time... and food out there too)
so, she peed on DD bed and pooped on ours!!!
my comforter is completely washed and AOK, however DDs bedspread STINKS!
it's in the wash now, on cold, with two washes. Will the smell come out, or am i wasting water and time?
if it doesn't come out, should i try putting natures miracle in the wash?
DD will be upset b/c we are throwing out her bedroom furniture, and now i may have to throw out her favorite bedspread too? oh, that will put her over the edge!!

Re: help ... CAT PEE!
I usually spray the crap out of it before I put it in the wash with the natures miracle. Then with washing it and the detergent, the smell has come out.
It's shouldn't ruin the comforter, mine was ok after my little kitten's "incident".
Make sure you get ALL the smell out - I mean rub your nose in it. Because, cats have much stronger sense of smell than us, when they smell pee, they will think its ok to continue to pee there....you don't want any repeats!!!

Re: help ... CAT PEE!
DONT throw anything out!!!! in the wash use a 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar has to be the apple cider for dog its the white. use your regular detergent with the apple cider vinegar and wallah!
mix 2 cups of warm water to 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and sponge clean the furniture.
cats hate vinegar smells, trust me this works, I have 5 cats .
good luck!!!

Re: help ... CAT PEE!
Make sure you aren't using an ammonia based detergent, because that will attract the cat to do it again.
Honestly, cat pee is so hard to get out completely so they won't do it again. You can get the smell out but if the cat can still smell it they will go there again. I had to throw out an area rug because my cats prefers rugs .
We even have a problem with DH's gym clothes and shoes. I think she goes on these because she can smell the ammonia. We really have to watch where we put stuff.
Nature Miracle is ok, but expensive. I found if I use an enzyme based detergent powder first and then Nature's Miracle, this works best. You can find enzyme laundry detergent at your supermarket.

Re: help ... CAT PEE! Update! Product Rave
one wash did it! thank you everyone one for urging me to not throw it out!
OK, so Target has their own brand detergent that i used, one wash, (with the two rinse cycle), and NO MORE SMELL!!
It's called "SUN" and was 2.99!! i highly recommend, plus it's cheaper than anything else out there.
my cat is an outdoor cat, so i don't think that she will do it again, i think she was just desperate, and probably mad that we left her....

Re: help ... CAT PEE! with update!
in the future, if you need anything again (for floors, carpets, etc), my parents used a product called Nature's Miracle. Our last cat (who was an indoor cat) had trouble in the last months of his life, and the NM product was great and always did the trick.
